Magnet swaps - dumb questions

Greetings! While reading this forum I became interested in doing some magnet swaps. In my project that I wrote about in some earlier threads I'm making complex wired Les Paul copy for my much younger teenage brother to experiment with sounds (as he is growing to be a guitar tone freak).

Now, that our wiring works properly we've listened closer to the pickup sounds. These are PAF-like Entwistle HV58 pickups, that sound very good for the money and are much of an improvement over stock humbuckers. But one on the bridge (using Alnico V) is maybe to sharp on the treble side, while neck pup (using Alnico II) is a bit muddy.

I did some research on magnets and I concluded that I should do this:
Bridge: polished A5 --> roughcast A5 to smooth the top;
Neck: polished A2 --> polished A3 to clear it up a bit.

What do you think about that configuration? Now, some serious questions. It's very hard to get these magnets where I live (Central Europe). I can get my hands on A3 bars, but they won't come cheap. Roughcast A5 I think is just impossible to get anywhere in Europe. Do you guys know about any dealer that has those? Shipping it from US is just waay to expensive.

So time has come for a dumbest question of the year:7: : if I can't get those RCA5 will roughing polished A5 with some hard sandpaper do the job? Thanks in advance!

Have you tried yet?

They are so kind. Ask them, and in a week or so you could have them. But IMO it's better a UOA5 instead of a RCA5

Yes, I did check them. RCA5 has been out of stock for at least a month. I've heard that UOA5 changes the tone rather dramatically, while also lessening the output, so it looks like RCA5 is what suits my needs best, but I would definitely like to try them both. :-)

You are correct. I prefer RCA5 for both the neck and bridge. But try UOA5 too.

I don't like A3. Too weak. Weaker than A2. But try it for yourself.

As for A2 I like polished in the neck for clarity. Roughcast in the bridge can sound great...but so can polished.

My stock Pearly Gates have polished A2. My Custom Shop Pearly Gates have Roughcast A2.

I might put polished A2 in the neck of my CSPG's. I prefer it.
