Magnetized pole pieces or magnet?

Alright, I'll be honest, I'm a bit confused when it comes to pickups. I understand the concept and have wrapped some very basic ones for the practice. So I generally buy cheap pickups for my projects since I have a limited budget and they usually have a magnet on them. However, I see videos about remagnetizing pickups, which leads me to assume that they don't have a magnet on them.

So I guess my question is: are the pole pieces magnetized or can I/should I just leave a magnet on there?

Re: Magnetized pole pieces or magnet?

If the pole pieces are magnets, like on a Fender pickup, you magnetize those. Some cheap Strat pickups have steel poles and ceramic magnets.

You can’t easily remagnatize ceramic magnets, and you generally don’t need to.

If it’s a humbucker with a bar magnet you magnetize the magnet. But only if it’s an alnico magnet.

In regular singlecoils the polepieces are Alnico magnets. In P90's and humbuckers pole pieces are steel rods/screws and the magnet(s) is/are under the pickup.

Some cheap single coils have similar construction with a steel pole pieces and ceramic magnet under the pickup, which is easily identifiable when you look under the pickup.

Yeah, I got cheap single coils and they are built like this. Thanks to everyone that has commented, this is very useful information for me.
