I swore I'd never buy a pointy guitar...but...

Jackson RR5FR Pro (291-3003-803) $399 at MF today (1 May '11) only. Add whatever discounts you can scrounge.

MIJ, SD JB & Jazz, SKB DeLuxe case, OFR FRT 02000 (OEM-only Korean version of the Schaller, not a "licensed" Floyd). I dug around and the final MSRP was over $2000

Holy crap. I had to give myself a reality check and everything! I was already adding it to cart! And I'm not even into pointies these days! That's a hell of a deal.

Re: Major Pointy-Guitar Deal!

That is a great deal! Too bad I already have a RR1, otherwise I would snag one in a hreatbeat.

Re: Major Pointy-Guitar Deal!

Man, I wish that was left-handed, in the UK and a guitar that I liked.

Sweet deal.

Re: Major Pointy-Guitar Deal!

The only problem is that now I have to get a mullet and move to Arkansas.

What's wrong with California if you want to play a guitar like that?

And why a mullet? You could go with a full Morgan Fairchild kind of thing, if you really devote the resources to it.

I dunno, they're totally shunned up here. I couldn't give this thing away on CraigsList, and I mean it. It's amazing.

That's certainly true, but I can't use hairspray in the house. The cat ain't going for it. I'd have to get a wig, I suppose, and prep it out in the shop.

Well, California is progressive. When they invent something, the only thing that means is after it's had its fifteen minutes there, it's dead to them.

Sweet deal if you are into that guitar!

I really wish MF would bring back Fender Friday deals.

Re: Major Pointy-Guitar Deal!

Got it today.

Kind of underwhelming.

It's definitely not a 100% new instrument, despite being sold as one. Probably a factory restock. 2008 build. The original box had been opened at least twice previously, once by an angry gorilla. No skins, wrap, inserts, manual. Did have the wrenches and Floyd crank, which matter. Manual would have been nice to figure out what the screwy controls are supposed to do, though. There's so much fighting between the pickups that it's hard to tell between all the peaks and cancellations. When will the industry learn you can't mix dissimilar pickups without nasty artifacts?

Not a single tiny scratch anywhere on it though, so OK. A tiny buff-through on the sharp point. Miles better than if I bought it "new" from GC, for certain.

FOUR (4) bags of dessicant.

No shipping invoice or any other inserts from MF. Wierd.

Setup was adequate. Blind luck there. Pickups slightly misaligned.

Rhoads has to be the most impractical body shape I've seen on a production guitar. The only way to stow it is to throw a noose around the head and hang it somewhere.

For the life of me I don't know where the hefty $2K MSRP came from. Looks for all the world like a Korean/Indonesian Cor-Tek in the $400-$600 street range.

OK axe. Pointy. Not sure if I'd do it again if I had it to do over.

I don't know where you got the $2000 MSRP from. My guess is it was somewhere probably around $1000 instead. Those guitars normally sold for $599 on Musicians Friend.

Anyways, congratulations and enjoy!!
