hey i was wondering if there is any practical and preferably cheap way to use some product on "normal" colored pole-pieces to make them "Gold"- colored without screwing up the tone.
I am planing out a kind of gold and black colored strat guitar and it would be awesome if i could get the pole-pieces golden colored to go allong with the theme.

thanks

It wouldn't affect the tone at all but I don't know of a way other than to actually gold plate them.

Why not buy screws? I don't know but can't they be bought at a hardware store? Just off the top of my head.

Hard to find gold plated screws anywhere. If anyone knows a source feel free to post it here.

Pole pieces are 5-40 fillisters. Not an "over the counter" screw, least not in my area. Can't be just any metal. Has to be at least mildly magnetic.

Couldn't find them anywhere cheap except online @ mcmasters or ampge in bulk (11.00/100@ampge, cant remember mcmaster's price). Stew-mac has them also, but they're too expensive (.75 each I think). Don't think gold finish is an option, but couldn't hurt to ask.

Might have some type of spray on gold plating/finish at Home Depot's or Lowe's. Don't know how it would affect tone.

The spray stuff doesn't shine like gold plating. Believe me I tried. Here's the best I could get for a gold plating look on my pole pieces in this Westone. Doesn't look too bad, but that's probably because these are the hex poles on a Super III. I think slotted screws wouldn't look so good.

Actually the slotted height adjustment screws were painted with the gold too as well as the humbucker ring. Looks better than I remember.

EDIT: To be honest I JUST remembered I was trying to go for a brass look to match the brass hardware so the paint I was using was brass colored. Gold might be a bit different.

Gold screws are somewhat harder but not impossible. Didn't emeber they hd to have some specific feature so that might make it a wee bit harder to find.

Allparts has 'em.

EDIT: Or at least they used to. Can't find 'em there now. Maybe Warmouth?

Even if those guitar oriented stores had them, it would be basically a rip probably a buck a screw...
