Make your bass sound like a rhythm guitar and bass at the same time

Is there any pedal effect that can do this? I am guitarist so i really dont know, its just our band it utilizing some complicated dual guitar harmonies and its important the bass can fill out those low frenquencies with TONS of aggression...

Distortion/overdrive/fuzz and gobs of midrange. Maybe an octave pedal or harmonizer. That and getting what you're playing grounded on the A string to help cut a bit more while being not so conservative with what you're playing. Brighter strings help too.

Look for dirt pedals that retain low end and have tweakable eq to really add some midrange attack when you need to.

Adjust your technique too to let notes ring out a bit more, hit the strings a bit harder, don't feel shy about using 2 or 3 note chords, etc... that's half the battle.

If the guitars are soloing, it's harder to drown them out so you can be pretty liberal with what you do.

Have the bass player play chords with a bit of fuzz/OD, maybe an octave pedal, and EQ it to have a lot of low mids. Playing harder also helps. Bass chording is one of my favorite techniques.

Sonically speaking, there is always the Billy Sheehan approach. Two pickups, two signal paths, two amplifiers, one clean, one set to provide da fuzz. Blend to taste, using instrument volume pots.

Playing-wise, think Claypool. Alternate low notes with double stops played on the upper strings. Almost like a left hand stride piano part.

I've got to believe that there is a good polyphonic harmonizer out there by now that will do this. Or get a Chapman Stick and use a two handed technique.

Re: Make your bass sound like a rhythm guitar and bass at the same time

Chapman Stick does not sound like rhythm guitar. More like Höhner Clavinet.

Well, if you tap the bass strings while strumming or picking the upper register, it might.

Re: Make your bass sound like a rhythm guitar and bass at the same time

With the Melody string action jacked way up and the string mutes removed, perhaps?

Re: Make your bass sound like a rhythm guitar and bass at the same time

For some reason I remember there was a band that did exactly this... And I wanna say a Digitech Whammy was involved.

Re: Make your bass sound like a rhythm guitar and bass at the same time

Depends on whether or not you want the bass and rhythm guitar to play identical notes, which for a lot of metal, this is the case. Although you get a more dynamic rhythm sound if the bass is doubling the kick and the rhythm guitar is incorporating palm mutes and sustained chords/8ths, rather than just all palm mutes.

Otherwise, look into a harmonizer and create scales in it that shift the harmony down or up within those scales.

Eight string à la John Paul Jones.

Get an Octavio pedal. From your bass effects pedals split the signal sending one side into the Octavio and then to a guitar amp while sending the other side into your regular bass amp. Profit.

This sounds awesome.

EHX POG/Micro POG and an overdrive pedal, maybe a distortion pedal if you need it. Are you planning to run this bass through one amp or split it into a guitar and bass amp?

No, i ment as in the me (lead guitarist) will be soloing in dual harmony with the rhythm guitarist, so hes playing the lower notes of a minor 3rd or watever... and the bass will take over the rhythm while we are doing that harmony...

Partially my fault for hastily reading the first post.
However, all of the advice so far still applies. I don't think anyone here was giving advice for a guitar player.

I just watched (and listened) to the Fishman Fission video demo. There is a detectable tracking lag.
