Makeshift Channels

My bass amp (Hiwatt B60) has two inputs, high and low, that provide different levels of drive to allow clean and overdriven sounds from the single channel amp. Could I buy an A/B/Y box and plug it into both? This would (theoretically) turn the A/B/Y box into a sort of channel switcher, allowing me to get a boost or overdrive without a dedicated pedal.

Before people point this out: I can understand it would probably be cheaper to buy a bass overdrive (e.g. EH Bass Big Muff) and one more cable, rather than an A/B/Y box and two cables. I haven't tried any bass overdrive pedals yet and if the only ones I can afford don't sound as good as my amp does overdriven (to me anyway) this is a potential backup.

Possibly, Unless the inputs are paralleled when you plug two cables into them. Otherwise yeah, you can get another channel out of it even with an A/B box.
