I have an HH Gibson Les Paul Special with a Super Distortion in this bridge. I really like it for high gain rhythm tones, but I have several guitars with hybrid/mismatched coils, and I’ve gotten really used to the extra harmonic content those sorts of pickup lend to lead parts and single note riffs. I’ve been thinking about trying to make a hybrid out of the Super Distortion just to see how that goes.
I haven’t looked into it much, but my first thought was to get an Evo 2 and steal a coil from that, but I’m open to suggestions. I wouldn’t mind losing a bit of output from the Super Distortion, but I’m hoping to keep from changing the EQ curve too drastically. I also want to avoid anything too bright/cutting. I’m not typically a fan of ceramic magnets, but the Super Distortion is warm enough to not get harsh, and I’d like to keep it that way.
Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome, including that I’m being dumb and shouldn't mess with something I already like.
