making a pickguard

ok, so now i want some kind of pickguard for my all black jackson DXMG(black finish/hardware/pickups ; i want it to have a unique look and since it plays great so i'm not seeling it for something else). I thought about mirror(a bit like the ibanez Universe 777/add some chrome pup rings instead of the stock black ones),white pearl or black pearl. So making a template for it should be no problem since i have the body to draw from. It won't be a pickguard with the pups and electronics attached but just a simple surfacial one to spice up the looks of this guitar. Making the guard itself won't be too much of a problem but now to my real questions:

-pups will be black, so what are your thoughts on what color guard and pup-rings to go for on a black finish?

-where can i get the basic material to make a pickguard out of(preferably in europe)? Both pearls aren't hard to find but mirror is difficult.

- any tips on screw placement to keep the guard in place without rattling?

-considering material: is 3-ply a necessarity or can i get away with single or 2-ply?

-how hard is it to work with those materials and what should be my prefered tools?

I'd appreciate any additional tips you guys might have.
regards,
Daniel

Re: making a pickguard

Chrome guard, Chrome pickup rings, Chrome top DMZ's( :D ), and hmm... What else can we chrome?

Um...gonna have to stop you right there--Jackson's are not suppose to have pickguards. :)

every rhoads has a pickguard ;)
But as i said, the guitar plays great but looks a bit dull, so spiceing it up with a pickguard should give it some more personality. With something like a black ghostflame finish i would never even consider a guard.

i'll probably do it like this if i can get the material for the guard. Except for the chrome-tops,those are way too expensive. In fact there will be dimarzios in there(cut a good deal on a mint set of Evos/arrgh, i think this guitar will become a Jackson/Jem hybrid ;) ).
