Making bottleneck slides

I've tried two methods of making my own slides. First, I used a hacksaw to score the bottle, then popped off the neck. This was super messy, left a really jagged edge that took a ton of sanding, and I still had the rim of the bottle intact.

The second method I tried involved soaking a string in nail polish remover, tying it around the bottle and lighting it on fire. Once the string burns out, you dunk it in water and it "cuts" the glass. This didn't work at all, so I used my micro-torch to heat the area. It took the rim and neck off the bottle in very clean cut (awesome, because it won't take much sanding), but the new slide has cracks running through it. It feels solid, but I wouldn't carry it around in my pocket.

Aside from the obvious answer and purchasing a glass cutter, anybody else have something that works?

I know it’s not the answer you’re looking for but why not just buy a pre-made one.
This just sounds like a huge hassle.

Edit:just re-read your last sentence. Lol my bad.

Re: Making bottleneck slides

My favorite slide is made from a piece of heavy-gauge brass pipe that I cut off with a hacksaw and sanded smooth-ish. I know it isn't exactly what you're looking for, but it worked out pretty well in the end.
