Mama mia, Phat Cats en mi Italia !

Took awhile...not that there was anything particular about the Italia, except that I first tried to use the SD mounting rings because they did fit the Phat Cats better, but the mounting screw holes didn't line up... Funny how something as simple as a humbucker mount can't be universal. The Wilkinson mounts were just a bit loose bridge-to-nut wise for the Cats, but not bad enuf to sweat it. I already had a PC in the neck of my Les Paul, so I knew I wasn't going to be let down.. but this time I used 2 Cats, and I really like having that Stratty/Tele mid position quackiness. It tends to reflect more of the neck PU but that's OK and they are very balanced volume-wise in the extremes. I will miss one sound the Wilkinson neck had - a very bassy, dark, round clean tone that I like on certain tunes I play. That's why I was asking earlier about a thin single coil like the Lace Sensor Dobro that I could tape-stick just below the neck PC for occasional noise cancelling/hummer experiments. Wouldn't pickup companies sell a lot more pickups if you could just pop them in with universal contacts ? Just loosen the strings and pop it in... A very old topic, I'm sure. Bottom line... if you dig the looks of the humbucking Italias (mine is the Mondial II, wood with f-hole) but want more character/balls/sensitivity that you get from P-90's, then you can't go wrong with the Phat Cats in there...IMHO.
Now...to put that second gold cover PC in my Paul...
(SD -surely this endorsement is worth at least a T...?)
