First, I'm not even considering any guitar purchases....just looking at what Katana from Japan has on Ebay. You gotta love LP Customs and 335's in the $800-$1000 range.

I've been gassing for an Edwards LP for quite some time...

Re: Man, those Edwards LP's/335's sure are tempting

That first one with the P-90's......that's the one I want.

I really wish those were all over the American market, and I don't even know how Katana legally sells them here. They aren't for sale at all in the US. How about the European market? Maybe the only place you can buy one in a store is Japan?

Gibson's worst nightmare would be competing with an identical clone for $750, hanging underneath the Gibsons at Guitar Center.

They're even better value in the UK, when you consider the price of a new US Gibson...

Absolutely! What a great guitar. Gibson & Epiphone should have been selling P-90 LP Standards in black & flame maple a LONG time ago.

And that black 355, gorgeous too!

Oh guys... let me tell you... I can't speak for the 335s but the LPs are everything you would hope they could be. Mine is awesome. Resonant, balanced, excellently constructed, solid as a rock and at 8.5lbs.... too good to be true - if I didn't know better. :D If you're thinking about buying one, do it. Seriously.

speaking of Katana Guitars, I found this one at their website. Looking at it, I'm reminded of John Sykes/Whitesnake/Blue Murder.

Yeah, it IS Sykes-LP copy (Oh, and BTW, Sykes' best work IMO was in Thin Lizzy, and the guy who suggested the hardware to be changed into chrome was Phil Lynott, IE Thin Lizzy)

all of those are sweet!!! i'd love to have one!

Katana can sell them because he's not really on American soil. Gibson really can't do anything and likely he doesn't move enough of them for it to be worthwhile to Gibson to try and put together some sort of lawsuit.

I've been saying that since I laid my hands on my first Greco a few years ago.

Japan is poised to smoke Gibson, badly, if it ever comes down to a one-to-one battle. Gibson makes a nice axe but they REALLY need to make sure that their name continues to mean as much as it does if they're going to keep doing business and go head-to-head against Edwards, etc.

I've dealt with Katana on a few buys and I give him props; he packs the axes like a pro, has remarkable turn-around time and is exceptionally good about questions. He deserves his excellent reputation.

Re: Man, those Edwards LP's/335's sure are tempting

Ahhhhhhhhhhh :banghead:

I don't need another guitar and you guys aren't helping. I was just looking at Edwards last night. One of those LPs would make an excellent addition to my arsenal. I have an LTD EC-400AT which is a phenominal guitar and one of the best I've played on. The Edwards could be its big brother with a maple cap (EC-400 has a mahogany archtop). I'm thinking I'd rather have an Edwards over a Gibson. I love ESP/ltd/edwards necks, they fit my hand like a glove.

Re: Man, those Edwards LP's/335's sure are tempting

So are they low end ESPs, or just ESPs? They are made in Japan not in Korea, so I am guessing they are above an LTD? They look way too good! Its funny though that the explorers and Vs are going for more than the LPs.!

They're better than LTD. They're mass produced in the same facility where the ESP customs are made. All the guitars (Edwards and ESP) start in the same place, but the ESPs are taken off the line by ESP guys for final fit and finish (fretwork, pickups, etc.) and the Edwards are completed by the factory employees.

Honestly, all the Edwards are given the famous Japanese honor-code driven attention to quality and detail. I'd put my Edwards LP Custom up against any modern-production Gibson any day (except Historics, etc. since I've never played one and don't wanna talk out of my ass). My Edwards Alexi Laiho V is one of the most stable, solid, best-playing guitars I've ever owned.

Unbeatable value.
