Maple and JB

I recently got a JB and decided to try it in a 1989 Carvin DC127T. The guitar is a maple neck thru with maple sides, ebony fb and OFR. One might think this is a bright guitar but it's not. The tone is very focused, snappy and midrange heavy.

After the install and some minor adjustments the guitar and pickup roar to life thru a partially cranked tube amp. Just as some members have stated, a maple bodied guitar does tighten the Jb's loose bass, the midrange is full and the highs are not shrill or harsh but round and smooth. I expected the opposite to happen.

The guitar's electronics are original(500k vol and tone mini pots)with the exception of the tone cap being replaced with a vintage Blue Mould cap prior to the Jb's installation. The guitar also has coil split switch and when engaged the Jb has a powerful and jangly single coil sound.

In a band setting the guitar cuts nicely including the bass. I find myself turning the volume down for rhythms as the Jb is a louder pickup and over powers the other guitarist then turn it up for leads.

I highly recommend this pickup for those of you that have maple guitars if anything just to try it you may be suprised. Rock On

Re: Maple and JB

Congrats, the JB is an awesome pickup!

I've read a lot of posts saying how bad the JB is especially in Les Pauls and glad I tried it anyway that pickup rocks big time!
