Re: Maple no fret board neck, swamp ash body, bridge fullshred, 500K pots ?
If it is a bit bright, you can always do the resistor/potentiometer mod, lowering the resistance of the pot, and decreasing highs. And you can do that to volume and/or tone pots.
They all add up together in the signal chain, and is CHEAP & EASY. (YOU DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION TO USE MY DATING PROFILE USERNAME!)
Higher resistance cuts signal to ground increasing highs. Just solder in resistor across outer lugs of the potentiometer. Start with low values and use alligator clips to test out without soldering.
I've done extensive testing on one of my guitars, and going from a 500K to a 25K (think EMG active) on one tone control makes a HUGE difference in tone. Don't rule out trying this!
I do not know of an effective way to INCREASE potentiometer resistance values without negative effects. So you can always get a 1Mohm pot and cut it's value.
Eddie VanHalen kinda had it right when he wired his pickup DIRECTLY to the output jack. NOTHING to bleed any signal to ground from the pickup. TOTAL PICKUP signal! No wonder he only wanted PAF style pickups, they put out plenty of signal to overdrive an input stage of an amp when there's no resistance to ground. Think of the volume and tone controls as a variable voltage divider with some capacitance. It bleeds to ground, and filters frequencies.
