Maple San Dimas - Pickup

Getting a custom GMW built with a Charvel USA neck. I've chosen hard maple as the body wood and am having a hard time deciding on pickups..

My other guitars are all GMWs and here's what I rock in them.

1) Alder San Dimas - Distortion/59
2) Alder San Dimas - JB/59
3) Alder Strat - Jackson J50B/Stk1/Stk1

I'm looking for a thick and bright sound - with smooth leads and maybe not high output like the distortion/JB. Using a Kemper profiling amp.

I love how Duncans sound but this build is more of a relic'd look and the double cream bobbins are cool from Dimarzio.

Looking at:
Dimarzio PAF 36th Neck/ Super Distortion bridge (double creme)
Duncan Alnico II Pro Neck / Custom 5 Bridge
Duncan Alnico II Pro Neck / Custom Custom Bridge

Anything else I should look at?

Personally I'd go with a Custom/Custom & Duncan A2 Pro in that particular fiddle but a Custom/Hybrid would be pretty awesome in the bridge too!!! SH-11's are pure magic in Maple, they are still plenty bright and powerful but not at all shrill...

LOL, the guitar you've described with a natural finish & hard tail bridge would be exactly what I'd do if I was doing a Warmouth build & money was no issue! Don't forget to post some pics when you get it together!!!!

Re: Maple San Dimas - Pickup

sweet set of axes you have there!! With the new one being hard maple, Id go Custom Custom to keep the brightness in check.. The Custom/59 hybrid is great too!

Thanks - they've been hard to find but Lee at GMW does killer stuff!

My concern with the Custom Custom is the low end is gonna be wooly and not tight?

Re: Maple San Dimas - Pickup

Custom Custom or JB with an A2 magnet in the bridge would be my choices. I had a hard maple 1 pickup hot rod strat with maple neck/fretboard and floyd rose years back, an A2 JB sounded great in it.

Re: Maple San Dimas - Pickup

Hard to argue with either the SuperD or the Custom Custom.

SuperD will be the 'sharper' of the treble tones for the two, and the tightest. CC will be fatter and looser...

neither will sound bad at all!
