This has probably been posted before, but I still haven't made up my mind on whether I like rosewood or maple fretboards on strats. I'm going to have to get a new neck soon probably, so I was wonderning. Also, it's an interesting discussions. Vote, state how you voted, and why. I'm leaning towards maple actually, because Dave Murray uses maple and I'll be using hot rails and fast track 2 pickups (similar to super distortions). What are the tonal qualities of each?

Re: Maple VS. Rosewood

For a strat, it's gotta be maple IMO.

Re: Maple VS. Rosewood

Ebony and maple are my 2 favs...Maple for Fender and Fender style guitars, Ebony for everything else, rosewood is ok, and I have a few guitars with rosewood boards, but I much prefer my ebony boards.

Re: Maple VS. Rosewood

I like them both, but I tend to lean towards mahogany, just seems to be more versatile for single coils and a humbucker.

Re: Maple VS. Rosewood

i just like the sound of rosewood warm and with a bright humbucker is the right choice ...

Re: Maple VS. Rosewood

i would like it to be known that i voted incorrectly. my preference is for rosewood and humbuckers, but i erroneously selected rosewood and single coils.

i do feel that the single coils have the more traditional flavor, though.

why am i even posting? i don't really like strats...

Re: Maple VS. Rosewood

Nothing says strat like a maple neck/board and three single coils.

That said, I also own a fat strat copy with a rosewood board, but it's kinda the bastard child of the strat family. ;)

Re: Maple VS. Rosewood

i think both are really good to play on. own characters, wouldnt say one is better than the other.

Re: Maple VS. Rosewood

I always prefer single coils, but enjoy both rosewood and maple for their different sonic qualities. Maple necks tend to be physically thicker than most rosewood models which works well for my long fingers. Rosewood is mellower and gives a fuller sound while maple has more bite and definition.

Re: Maple VS. Rosewood

maple for sure but ebony is nice...i sold all my rosewood board strats and got maple ones (and one ebony) to replace them!
