Mariachi six string bass "Guitarron" ADGCEA song: "La Bikini" a beautiful song that I do zero justice too, I'm a novice - less then 1 year of daily practice, It takes 2 strings paled simultaneously to make one note; IE... ABCDEFG all the sharps and flats are two notes with the exception of_ A flat_ its the only note that uses just one string - the Guitarrone takes tremendous strength and there is no real lessons to be found - at least not in English - so basicially nothing comes easy on this beast of all bass guitars!
I paid $365.00 for mine on Craigslist - it happened to belong to _Claudia the Conga player in Mariachi Divas at the time of sale, The Mariachi Divas did play in the entree hall of NAMM 2010 - I asked if Claudia was there so I could tell her I actually was learning how to play the Guitarron she sold me - but she was on leave out of the area. when I bought it - she was nice enough to drive it here to me. she also showed me how to form the notes ABCDEFG before she left - story goes she went to Tijuana with a guy-friend who was inlisted to help her choose a good Guitarron, because she had plans to learn the instrument, but it was not working out as planned -
I've used it so much I cracked the top three times and repaired it everytime myself.. then just two days ago... it fell from my brand new Erine Ball Nylon bass guitar strap while my hands were full - it landed square on its pointed spine back -it cracked the back 4"and the impact also released the back 3/4ths of the way around - almost complete loss.. but I managed to re-glue the whole guitar - adding strength to ever seam and brace in it... it now sound LOUDER and more solid and BASS-ier then ever! what luck!
