marshall 1936 2x12 cab

was recording with my marshall 1936 cab and discovered one of the speakers didn't work :/ assuming the ohm-age and wattage are the same, would there be any issues swapping out the broken speaker for a crappy marshall one from a AVT cab just temporarily ?

As long as the Ohm ratings are the same it will work. Did you double check the connections?

Could be simple loose push-on spade terminal connector(s). Could be a blown coil. A resistance meter reading will soon tell you.

To keep the impedance of the cab the same the new speaker must have the same impedance as the old one.

A 1936 usually has two 16 ohm speakers wired in parallel, so the cab's impedance is 8 ohms.

Remember the power handling capacity of the cab is the wattage of the lowest powered speaker multiplied by the number of speakers in the cab. So if you have a cab with a 60 watt speaker and a 30 watt speaker it can handle 60 watts max (2 x 30).

Some of the more generic speakers used in Marshall cabinets are perfectly worthy of using.....maybe as a keeper too. We get spoiled by choices, but many licensed speakers aren't too bad.
