Marshall 3203 Artist 30...Opinions?

There's one for 300AUD at a used book/record store in Sydney. I looked at it, but I didn't have my glasses, so all I could see were a couple of power tubes. Nothing to plug it into, nor did I have a gtr on me. I can do this later, if warrented.

Is anyone familiar w/this amp? Harmony Central reviews were ok, but I don't always think that's trustworthy. Small box head, Arist 30 on the front, model 3203. I think I'm repeating the correct model number.

tube power amp, SS preamp...short lived amp, actually sounds kind of neat...not tradition Marshall in ways but very much a Marshall sound.

One of my favorite amps LK. I have (2) of the combo version.

The only negative of the amp to me is the lack of more complete tone controls on the dirty channel.

It has a clean channel that isn't very clean, more of an overdriven clean channel. One may want to think of the clean channel as a less dirty channel.

It occurred to me after posting that someone might point that out....I was able to see well enough to avoid Olivia Newton John in the record section, though.

wixedmords, I saw that pointed out in a review re the tone control issue, although it seems no one seems to think it's a huge issue.

TGWIF, ok, so my eyes wern't that bad, didn't think I saw pre tubes. I've heard mixed review re Music Man's foray into that type of hybrid, although I didn't think that one sounded too bad. However, I only played the MM briefly.

Guess I'll have to drag a gtr down.

More of a preference LK. I would have preferred the dirty channel had a 3 band EQ at least like the clean channel rather than the single tone knob.

Don't let it drive you away from the amp though. I like both of mine.

mmmmmmmmmmmm.......Olivia Newton John's butt. I hate to admit this, but I saw her live in concert when I was like 12. Jim Stafford was her opening act.
