Marshall 4x12 Cabinet Question(s)

I play a Line 6. The thing about playing modeling amps is that it exposes you to a lot of different stuff, which always gets you to wondering about the the real deals sound like.

The 4x12 Cabinet selections I have are:
1. 4x12 Vintage 30's
2. 4x12 Stock 70's
3. 4x12 Greenbacks

It seems to my ears that the Vintage 30's actually sound the most modern, the Greenbacks sound like they're down the hall and in the closet, and the Stock 70's are somewhere in-between. My ears prefer the Vintage 30's for a good 80's rock sound.

What are these different types of cabinets, and what are they used for?

I ask this because someday I'll have the real deal, and would like to know more about the cabinet selections.

Only diff is the Speakers.

The 70's ( or 75's) are raspy lousy choices in celestion/

V30 have a mid bump that gives them the modern tone to my ear, very efficieint (loud) speakers.

G12M Greens are 25 watt each ( the V30 is actually a 60 watt speaker) and are much more vintage ( my fav. celestion) but have less lows, and a smoother mid than the V30.

Depending on the head, it will react differently, some amps don't like the V30's

Hahahahaha that cracked me up, ive got a pod 2.0 and the 4x12 greenback cabinet model sounds so crap! Greenback cabs sound nothing like what the pod has them sounding like! :laugh2:

Ive actually got five clips of the same song played through the same guitar and same amp and same cab only with different types of speakers each time. Its awesome for actually hearing the difference between the celestion speaker types. PM me an email or icq or something and ill send them to you.

Using a moddeler as reference is not going to get you very far, hear the real things, borrow them for rehearsals with a band and you'll find out what suits you best.
