They are very similar to the preamp section in the old 800 series SS amps...which for SS, is pretty darned good. Billy Gibbons used one in his rack at the time..i suspect it replaced the lead 12 head he had been using. The preamp was more flexible in the EQ section, and it had a bit more gain than 800 SS combos and heads.

I had one - won it in a prize draw at a Marshall promotion. Got a Spinal Tap poster signed (in person) by Jim Marshall that night too. It was very good and was great going into a desk for recording. Better than the later Valvestate stuff. I swapped it for a nice big bag of something I was smoking a lot of at the time.
