Has anyone tried it yet? It seems to be the perfect solution for me considering my very strict criteria. This is from the new AVTX series ... i'm not even sure they are in stores yet but I saw one on Music123.com and looking at the specs, it's perfect. anyway, any info would be beneficial.

thanks

Re: Marshall AVT50X

Mmmm.... so, the only update from the AVT series is the automatic variable fan?

AVT50 isn't a bad amp, by the way.

Re: Marshall AVT50X

It also comes with new cool-looking knobs.

Basically, it's the same as the old AVT series, which is a great amp for the money, by the way.

Re: Marshall AVT50X

I have a AVT20 and Its awsome IMO (getting a JCM900 soon though \m/) and the only difference i nthe AVTX's is they ae not made in england. I've heard the sound is very similiar though and its cheaper$$!

tube > solid state

Unless you're an old timer only playing at home like me. I haven't found an unattenuated tube amp of any size yet that can play with distortion at home without peeling the paint off my walls. Solid state and hybrid have come a long way recently.

You're right in your thinking though, just one days you'll be old like me and need to give your ears a break.:)

haha true enough. You are right about the fact that hybrid and digital amps have come a long way. A lot of the time its very hard to tell the difference between tube and solid state, when just playing distorted powerchords. But its in the leads that the tubes sell me. You ever try a Laney LC-15. At 15 watts its the smallest tube combo i've heard of. Shouldn't be too terribly bad.

Re: Marshall AVT50X

Never played a Laney, hard to find them locally, I'm 2 hours away from a "big" store, but I have heard good things about them. Closest thing I've found for getting decent distortion at home is the Traynor YCV 50 blue, with the master volume. I own a Vox ad30vt right now and it does a decent Marshall imitation, which is mostly the style of music I play. I'm just an old leftover hair metaler from the JCM 800 days. But like I said, the ears need a rest now.:27:

Re: Marshall AVT50X

I used to own a AVT50. Sold it to a friend to aid some finances for a JCM900
It can be loud and has a good bass effect.
I migrated to tube ever since I sold off my AVT50. The only solid state amp I have right now is a acoustic laney amp. LC-60R

Re: Marshall AVT50X

i have heard the Marshall AVT50 and it sounded real good when it was super low. the more you turned it up the buzzier it got. too bad cause low it sounds pretty darn good.

the problem is that it has to be real low.

anyway, check out the Crate GFX212 series. you will lose your mind on how good that amp sounds for SS. actually i was thinking about getting that as opposed to the VHT pitbull that i have now. Even though that sounds crazy, the crate sounds awesome at home volumes and can do Marshall way better than Marshall, in my opinion.
Also Vox has a pretty cool Line of amps for you to check out. these also are way better than Marshall SS.

That IS the problem with solid state, they're fine for playing at really low volumes, but at any band practice level they start to peter off. Unless you have like a 350 watt Mode Four that is so loud you don't have to put the volume past 2 to practice with, then it will sound alright. But if you're going to pay that much money for a Mode Four, why the heck not get tube amp. Your leads will just be that much better.

Very true statement. The way I addressed this problem with solid state was by ditching my 40 watt per side stereo power amp and got a 500 watt home stereo receiver to power my guitar cabinet. Same price....All I have is pedals going to a digital stereo preamp and that goes to the receiver. Big sound. Solid State is a whole different ball game when go get into the hi-watt arena..although it does still have it's limitations..
