Hey guys,
I just tried out a used 'marshall lead vintage' cab. Pulled the back off it, Black speakers 'G12 16ohms, made for marshall by celestion, MARSHALL VINTAGE, made in england blah blah'

Anyone have experience with this cab or the speakers?
The price is really drawing me in!

Re: Marshall cab, Marshall vintage speakers???

Someone told me that there was different speakers used in the Marshall Vintage Cab reissues.... said that some come with green backs and others with higher wattage speakers....... I hear they are great cabs either way

Re: Marshall cab, Marshall vintage speakers???

The cab was rated at 140watts mono. So I assume thats 35 watts each. But Vintage 30's are 70 watts? So whats the deal?

I'm gonna be using a dual rectifier with this, just so you know.

1960AV 280-watt, mono (16 ohm or 4 ohm)/stereo (8 ohms + 8 ohms) angled 4x12 cabinet loaded with four Marshall/Celestion G12 Vintage 70-watt speakers. (Note: This speaker is also known as the Vintage “30” —a misleading name that prompts many, including pro players and techs, to refer to the speaker as a 30-watter!)

Maybe they are vintage 30's????

Re: Marshall cab, Marshall vintage speakers???

To be certain I would...

a) Check the cab for a model number and/or serial number then Google for further information and also e-mail Marshall

b) Check the speakers for any other codes/numbers then Google for further information and also e-mail Celestion.

Re: Marshall cab, Marshall vintage speakers???

I doubt they're g12h30's...and just to correct you i think vintage 30's are 60watts not 70...pretty sure anyway.

Re: Marshall cab, Marshall vintage speakers???

Vintage 30's. Marshall rates them at 70 watts each, although they are essentially no different from the ones Celestion rates at 60 watts, except for cosmetics, and they are called "Marshall Vintage". Many 90's "Marshall Vintage 1960" cabs have two inputs, each at 140 for two speakers. It's 280 watts for all four. There's a switch and a input marked mono that allows you plug into one of the inputs to drive all four at 16 ohms. Hope that helps.

Re: Marshall cab, Marshall vintage speakers???

I was wondering why I've never seen the same wattage written up for vintage 30's.
Some sa 60,65,70. It never ceased to confuse me.

Re: Marshall cab, Marshall vintage speakers???

Sounds like the Marshall 1960AV I have. 4-12" Celestion Vintage 30's with Marshall stickers and rated at 70 watts each for 280 watts mono 16/4 ohms or 140 watts stereo 8 ohms. Great sounding cabinet BTW.

Re: Marshall cab, Marshall vintage speakers???

They are 70 watters, but not V30's, even though they look like V30's.

If you put them next to V30's you can see the difference. They were standard issue in the late 80's in some Marshal Combo's. I have one in each of my 4203's.

They are a bit brighter than V30's. Great match for a Emi Governor in a 2x12.

They also can be seen in the 90's JTM series.

I also have examples of the Marshall Vintage and the Celestion versions. I also find the Marshall Vintage version a little brighter. However, other than the color of the frame and the sticker they look virtually identical to me. They both use the 444 cones, and the H magnets. What else I can see looks the same. They are are very close, but they do not sound identical. They seem like two sub-versions of the same basic speaker.

Re: Marshall cab, Marshall vintage speakers???

I set out to find out about this speaker and spent quite some time on it LPB.

It does look close when you have them side-by-side, but when I measured it, the dimensions were a bit different.

I asked in some forums, and on the Marshall Law forum one of the guys told me it was a 70 watter, and was in the 1997 Marshall catalog.

I did find these things online at the Marshall site.

Check out the bottom of this link, the extension cabs.

I sometimes jokingly call them a V35. :)

The speaker also works great paired with a V30.
