Marshall Copycat Heads.

What are some amp heads with a Marshall voice for under a grand? I can't afford a Marshall and the used market is pretty crappy here.

Peavey Windsor? Epiphone So Cal? I like the specs of the So Cal, because of the 2 channels, but I dunno what it sounds like. What are some good amps guys?

Or would I be better off putting new tubes in the C30 and looking for a good OD pedal?

EDIT: I can't do ebay realistically, as I am a minor. Craigslist sucks here.

Laney Pro-Tube, NOT A LANEY AOR PRO-TUBE - these are different. They basically straight 800 clones, something like 50% are the same components, not tranny though. Build quality prolly better than most mid 80s 800s. You can find one sometimes for less than $500
on ebay or craigs list.

Sovtek Mig series...I like the 50's best but the 60's are nice if you want more gain...

Alot of folks say they sound like a Bassman in the first channel and a JTM45 in the second.

How close is that to the truth? I'd love to have both of those amps in my arsenal and have wondered if the Mig would be worth looking into.

Also....are they fragile? What's the deal with the comment about them not leaving the house.

Thanks....

Laney gh50l. It sounds similar to a JCM800 but with more gain IMO.
They were build in early nineties in Russia, on the assembly line that was not a dedicated for amp production, I think it was some plant that build tube electronics for soviet army, so people and the line were not exectly amp builders. It has a reputation for a really weak input jacks and EQ pots. But, I've never played one.

I dissagree, its a 90s amp, it is voiced completely different, it is the bass for current Iommi's amp which is nothing like Marshall, I could see the parallels with JCM2000, but the thread is about copycats and that's not exectly same as being some what, arguebly similar.

Re: Marshall Copycat Heads.

PV VTM or Butcher do the 800 thing. I hav owned both and like the VTM better,. Both are 200.00 amps, the VTM is easier to find. I have a Laney AOR 100 ( Low gain input dimed, gives you real deal Plexi sounds) and a VTM, I did almost the same mods to both of them, mainly just stuff to warm them up a bit and get more bottom. They are extremely similiar sonically, If I were to convert the VTM to EL34 tubes, I think they would be identical. The build on the Laney is definately better.

You can still find Traynor Bassmasters for 350.00 or so, with a little looking. The Bassmaster MK II is as good sonically as any Marshall ever built. Freakin monsters with a build quality as good as Hiwatt.
