Marshall DSL mains transformer

Over the past year or so my mains transformer has gone 3 or 4 times, and every time my tech replaced it after about an hour of playing it went again. what could keep causing it to go? The only thing I can think of is last time I used it to record I noticed one speaker wasn't working on my 2x12 cab so effectively I was using the 8ohm output of the amp into a 16ohm speaker, could that be what was causing it?

Re: Marshall DSL mains transformer

It shouldn't hurt too much. It's when the ohm load is smaller than what the output is rated for that makes things go haywire.

And I assume that by mains, you mean the power transformer?

Re: Marshall DSL mains transformer

Something in your amp is pulling more current through the PT than it can handle.
Bad power tubes
Heater supply
Rectifier
Bias supply
.....those would be some likely candidates.
In "normal" operation, a mismatched load on the OT would be one of the last things I would expect.

You are saying "Mains Transformer"
By any chance do you mean Mains Fuse.?
The tranny would be costing you 100 bux each time, just for the part.

Seems to me your tech should have been figuring this out the first time it blew, or at least the second. If they are going that quick, it should have been obvious to him/her that just replacing it wasn't going to fix anything...
