I want to buy an all tube amplifier and I had to choose between a DSL and TSL...I want to compare DSL401 to TSL601...apart from wattage and channels how is the sound difference?which one sounds better...?:15:
I've tried the heads, couldn't help you with the combos.
I like them both, I think a parallel fx loop would be a godsend for me though, so I'd go with the TSL personally. It's just features over tone in my case. They both sound good, it's coo.
Just goes to show that people have different preferences, but overall i think people seem to prefer DSLs but there is alot who prefer the TSL, its your choice in the end tho...try both of em and then decide...
Ive heard them both and i think the DSL sounds far better, but thats just my opinion, but i think there is a majority that prefers the DSL. This topic is often discussed and the usual consensus from most people is the DSL has far better tones...especially cleans!
But try them, your ears are different to everyone elses
The TSL has been plagued with problem after problem. A friend of mine just traded his in, and wouldn't you know, the ONE year old reverb tank died there on the spot. The extra gain offered by the TSL just isn't worth it.
Between the DSL and TSL, Im a fan of neither, but I would take a DSL first
I've got a TSL602 combo man and I love it. I swtiched the stock speakers out for V30's and that helped out the tone tremendously. The orig speakers had too much hi end sizzle. I like the extra gain (lead) channel for heavier distortion tones. The crunch channels absolutely rocks and covers alot of range from blues to punk rock. The clean channel leaves alot to be desired. I added a 2x12 cab and that really helped to open up the sound and fill in alot of the low end that was missing. The rig now sounds great and I can cover alot of territory with it. Its almost 7 years old now and haven't had a single problem except for a tube replacement.
I've never tried the DSL series, so I can't comment on how those sound.
If you're shopping for a new amp bro, try out one of the newer Marshalls like the JVM. I had to invest in new speakers, tubes, and a good 2x12 cab to get mine to sound just right. YMMV.
