Marshall DSL20CR vs Vox Custom AC15

I’m going after that classic rock sound with my Epiphone LP and deciding between the new DSL 20W Marshall or the VOX AC15.

I like that the Marshall channels can be foot switched and it has a head phone jack. The Vox appears to have some great clean and crunchy tones but not sure it has a head phones jack.

For 70s era rock which would you prefer for quality? I’ve also heard on bass notes there is a rattle or hiss with some AC15s.

Thanks.

Think your gonna need pedals with the Vox to get the distortion you want at less than ear bleeding levels

I will say this. I have an AC10 I am gonna unload. Since I bought my Lil ole 6505 MH, the Vox hasnt been plugged in since. I like more dirt than VOX myself, and the 15 is LOUDER.

Vox is awesome if you can push it. And it is really loud. It won't do dirty tones on low volume like you said. However, I don't know if DSL20 can? People seem to often say you need to push standard Marshalls too to get a great tone...

So, if it's between these two: Vox takes pedals better, which may be better actually, and allows much wider range of options. But if you like the tone of DSL, get it.

Quick tangent: how is the headphone out on the 6505 MH?

The high gain channel can get plenty dirty at very low volumes. However, once the power amp is being pushed it will be better. Modern Marshalls are mostly preamp based for distortion. Vintage plexis are all about power amp distortion and feel using big bottle power tubes such as EL34s or KT66s, which is great if your in a situation where you can do that.

The most recent Marshalls such as the DSL20 are designs that allow players to push EL34s along with the preamp derived overdrive in today's playing situations.
