trying to get rid of a marshall mg100hdfx. im asking $225 for it. does have some minor nicks in the tolex, but nothing at all that effects its sound or components, completely cosmetic. im selling because i recently purchased a mesa boogie for a steal and don't need the marshall anymore. this thing is a loud 100 watt head, great for pretty much any size gig. especially if you run through a PA. the specs are:
channel one: Gain, Bass, Middle, Treble. it also offers a clean/crunch switch, making it quite versitle. clean can be dialed in anywhere from sparkly/spanking clean to zeppelin and ac/dc.
channel two: Gain, Bass, Middle, Treble, Countour, and Volume. The contour knob makes this head yet even more versitile. Basically, the more you turn this knob up, the more it changes the mids to a more "modern" sound. basicaly this channel can easily get you guns n roses to metallica by turning the knob. this channel also has two voices - OD1 and OD2. OD1 is more of an expansion of channel ones "crunch" voice. kind of a southern rock/yellow ledbetter (solo) kinda sound. OD2 however delivers the traditional modern marshall sound. a good clean distortion, if that makes any sense. and with the contour knob and master volume for channel two, you can always be sure you won't have screaming loud clean, and volume loss when you kick on the nuts.
rolling farther down the face of this beast is the built on effects. i have to admit, i thought these would be really cheesey, but i was actually surprised when i dialed in delay and pretty much nailed the "welcome to the jungle" intro. the knob lets you mix choose between chorus AND delay, delay by itself, chorus by itself, and flange...all on ONE knob! the dealy/chorus and others is changed by how far you turn the knob, once you hit a certain point its the next effects "voice" all of this is clearly marked on the face plate, its pretty simple to grasp. the more you want of that effect i.e. more delay (bigger gap in notes) the more you turn it clockwise, and vice versa. another nice feature is the FX Level. this is just what it says, a pre-set volume boost/cut for the effects (which is footswitchable) i always used a decent amount of chorus, and put the FX Level a notch or two higher than my master volume and viola! instant solo boost! the amp also offers reverb, effects loop level and mix, and master volume which controls the overall level of the amp. i never really messed with much of the effects loop stuff so im not the guy to ask about that.
another feature is the FDD switch. honestly, it says its suppose to tighten up the sound. i never noticed much difference to tell ya the truth. very minimall if at all difference. theres also a CD In, and Emulated Line Out & Headphones, thats right! headphones! if you cant jack it to 11, slap on some headphones and wail all night. comes in handy at 3 a.m. when you can't get that new riff out of your head.
overall this head is great for its versatility. and besides, if you have a POD or some killer pedals and want a cheap way to power them, buy this! remember its still a 100 watt head. believe me it will still run with its bigger brothers. ive gigged with this amp for over a year and its never failed me. just take care of your **** and it'll take care of you. so if you're looking for a cheaper alternative to get marshall roar, or just lookin for something a little less pricey to run that brand new distortion pedal, this head is for you. Its versatility got me through 4 hour cover band gigs with ease. all you need now is a cabinet and you're ready to rock!
