Marshall Jackhammer

Re: Marshall Jackhammer

well.. i dunno bout that, all i know it sounded sweet through a laney 30W tube amp.
and built like a tank too

Re: Marshall Jackhammer

I've got a Jackhammer. It's pretty good. I keep it on Overdrive and set the Gain at like 3 o'clock and it's all the crunch I need. Looking into getting a plexitone, but not sure if I can swing the cash.

Re: Marshall Jackhammer

I've heard more of the Guv'nor than the jackHammer.
But i believe both are equally good.

I'm using a marshall compressor sustainer and it rocks.
But I didn't know that the Guv'nor is a updated shredmaster.
Thanks =)

Re: Marshall Jackhammer

Tha Jackhammer is really good although I prefer the Guv'nor.

wixom, the Guv'nor was out before the Shredmaster. First came the black Guv'nor, then the Blues Breaker, Driver Master and Shred Master (all in black enclosures). The new silver Guv'nor Plus is an updated version of the original Guv'nor.

For anyone that needs a good pedal for that Marshall Crunch JCM800 or JCM2000, this pedal is it! I just picked one up and it sounds better than most pedals that cost quite a bit more money. Here are some reviews.

Love mine! Bought mine when it came out after also reading several reviews about it....I now own a Carl Martin Plexitone and I Like it even more than the JH...Both are great pedals, but the Plexitone is over $200...:9:

Re: Marshall Jackhammer

I played a jackhammer through a JCM 800 at a little guitar shop in town. The guy was trying to sell me a pedal as I was trading in my Boss Power Driver... The prick had me playing a Gibson Les Paul Classic with Duncans into the Jackhammer into a JCM 800. Of course it's gonna sound good! At the time I was playing a stock Squier Affinity strat into a Squier amp. As if I'm going to get the same tone... But it sounded awesome in the setup he had me playing.

oh lol. my bad. all i had ever heard was that the Guv'nor was an updated Shred Master. Thanks though for the clarification.

how does the Guv'nor sound compared to the Shred Master? I see Shred Masters around here in the local shops and the last one I saw like a month ago went for $180. No pedal is worth that much IMO.

No problem, man. All it takes is one sales dummy (not you but whoever told the guy or guys that told you) to say one thing and it spreads like wildfire...LOL.

The Shred Master is heavier, a lot heavier. The Guv'nor is more of a classic/hard rock overdrive but it has a good amount of drive to it. The Shred Master just kills. Those black box Marshall pedals are classics, that's why they're going for so much now.

Re: Marshall Jackhammer

IMHO, the Jackhammer is as good as it gets for Hard Rock and Metal. This pedal will turn your amp into a High Gain Tone Monster.

Re: Marshall Jackhammer

I bought a DriveMaster once for $20...

damn I'm a idiot for selling for cheap...

Sold a ShredMaster for cheap too...

*hangs head in shame*

Hey buddy.....Ironic thing about the JH in my case? I've never modded mine, nor have I ever opened the pedal up to peak inside of it....It has all the cool stuff I ever wanted from a great pedal...It sounds like a Marshall, has plenty of lows, plenty of gain, plenty of overall adjustment on the tone controls, and it stays tight..I only like the overdriven side of the pedal though and not the darker gainier side...

The only negative about the pedal is the controls are tiny and very hard to adjust quickly on the fly...I pretty much set mine and leave it right where it's set...Bought mine new and even though I Love the Plexitone,I do still use my JH and I won't part with it...

Re: Marshall Jackhammer

To hear some good Shredmaster stuff, listen to "Pablo Honey" or "The Bends" albums by Radiohead. Jonny Greenwood, the elad guitarist, uses a Tele with Fender Lace upus through a Shredmaster and into a solid state fender amp. Most of the high-gain soudns on those 2 albums are done with that setup. If you only have one track to listen from, try "Just". Cool song...

Re: Marshall Jackhammer

Hi all,

I've been an advocate of the Jackhammer. I've had one for ... dunno how long - but mine's from the very first batch ever imported here to the Czech Rep, made still in India (not China as nowadays). The pedal is pretty versatile, plust it won't make all of your guitars sound the same (if you use more guitars), which is good in my book.

And I recently scored a rusty yet trusty old ShredMaster - that's a beast. And it cost me an equivalent of like 56 bucks. I am not going to sell them. Here, the old Marshall pedals have not been recognized as "vintage" yet so you can buy them at reasonable prices.

Cool score, Tony. Consider yourself lucky that those old black box pedals are still cheap to get there. An old black Guv'nor these days here can catch $150 USD easy.

I plan on doing the same thing. My breadboard is currently occupied though but it is a project I want to do. I've only recently starting messing with IC circuits and actually made my own TS-based booster/overdrive. The Guv'nor is a must though.
