Marshall Jooby Reissue vs. Original.

Re: Marshall Jooby Reissue vs. Original.

There's so many variables, that I wouldn't worry about it if I were looking to buy the reissue. You've got differences in tubes, bias, brand new capacitors, etc. I'm glad to see they put V30's in the reissue cabs. Back in 87, almost all the cabs had G12T-75, although they did make a few with V30.....very few.

I'm a little miffed that they even reissued them, since it probably affects the value of my 87 fullstack. Luckily, I have the 50W fullsize head, which they didn't reissue, and I really hope they don't. I wish they would have reissued the 1988 Jubilee, the black one. Reissuing it in silver may have diminished the vintage value of the old ones, not that Marshall cares about that.

The first youtube video I saw of the new Jubilee had me really scared, but that was due to the fact Nick Bowcott sucks and had a lame sounding pickup in his Charvel. LOL

Re: Marshall Jooby Reissue vs. Original.

I would *hope* that GC biased them both correctly. They have far more new ones to sell than old ones.

That said....Guitar Center....

And I am with ya Joe...Nick Bowcott....jeez......every time I see him doing a demo for Marshall I cringe.

MUSHY OVERGAINED OUT PRE-AMP? CHECK.
BAD SQUEALIE PINCH HARMONICS THAT MAKE ZAKK SOUND LIKE FINE WINE? CHECK.
BRIEF BUT NEVER BRIEF ENOUGH DEMO? CHECK.

They have this new German guy....EDIT- (comparitively) AMAZING demos..far better than the english speaking ones with Nick or Chris G. Only bad teeth and no translation.

Here's one to celebrate your new 2204 ;)

Gotta give GC credit here.

You MUST listen through good phones/monitor.

Reissue sounds like garbage comparitively.

Maybe it's my speakers, but I didn't think they sounded hugely different; in fact I thought the clean / rhythm clip sounds were almost identical. On the lead channel I thought the original was a bit brighter and had slightly better clarity, but this could be down to a bunch of factors. He had the controls set identically, so the difference could be down to component tolerances in any number of places. Also, the original Jubilee went through 3 circuit revisions. Which version was their original head, and which one did Marshall reissue? It's generally accepted that the final revision sounded best, so they probably should have used a black tolex original ('88) to be sure it was the final version.

Re: Marshall Jooby Reissue vs. Original.

Maybe it's my speakers

I think maybe that is the case. Your description is the compete opposite of what I am hearing. If you read through all the yootoob comments you will also find the vast majority are along the same wavelength. For those who prefer the reissue, they are admitting to liking it's brighter nature. I would call it brittle and thin... but..semantics/ymmv.

FWIW, I just got a set of studio headphones that have really opened my eyes/ears. Previously I had listened to that clip and thought the difference was minimal as well.

That bald guy talks an awful lot just to make a bunch of breaks in his bees in a can tone monsters. **** this ****.

The German dude talks about the 2203 being the ultimate rock tone, the amp having just the right amount of drive, all of the knobs pointing on 6, rolling back the guitar's knob for cleans, using a bunch of pedals for spice, nothing you wouldn't know already, really.

Re: Marshall Jooby Reissue vs. Original.

Even on my crap-o computer speaker I could tell some difference, under gain the original seems richer; reissue seems more focused and brighter. Couldn't tell as much with the cleans.

Re: Marshall Jooby Reissue vs. Original.

Like all new amps, I would bet that after the speakers break in, and you replace the tubes with better ones, the differences will be less apparent.

Re: Marshall Jooby Reissue vs. Original.

I think he used the same cab for both amps in the demo. But point taken about tubes, caps, etc. Maybe the diodes in the gain stack are a little different too.

Both amps sounded great to me, I had a slight preference for the original but I am biased, because I am lucky enough to have one!

My buddy Ollie @ musikschmidt/session always pulls off a killer clip...germans :bigthumb:

I've heard that the diodes are different because the originals are no longer available. I've also heard other clips of the reissue that sound almost identical to my 1988 Jubilee. He had the knobs set exactly the same on both amps, so I think any differences we're hearing are down to component tolerances (pots, caps, etc.) and the fact that no two sets of tubes sound exactly the same.

I'd be willing to bet that you could make both amps sound the same, although at slightly different settings.
