Marshall JVMs and new DSLs - opinions?

Has anyone been using these as their main amps?

I was in the store yesterday playing with the JVM410H and I was thinking "Hmmm... these amps don't sound half bad. The controls are well laid out, they're voiced well, and there's good tones in here."

Then the amp had a few random volume drops, fizzed, and died. :yell:

I checked the back panel and found the reason why. Some nincompoop had plugged the 16 ohm output into the 8 ohm input on the speaker cab.

Anyways, back to the point. how are these things to use out in the real world? Were I to get one, I think I'd go for the JVM205H - 50 watts and 2 channels with three modes per. 4 channels with 3 modes per is just too much to play with, for me anyways. ;) I don't like the fact that you can't switch the power tubes. You buy a Marshall for an EL34 tone but I'd at least like the option of running 5881s.

I saw they had a new DSL100H in there too though I didn't play it as I had to run, but it looks like Marshall has revamped those as well.

Any opinions on either amp?

Re: Marshall JVMs and new DSLs - opinions?

I've played the DSL40C (1X12 combo). I was impressed. It has both classic Marshall tones and higher gain in a second channel. In fact I've decided to get one after going back and forth between the Blackstar 40 and the Marshall. I haven't played the DSL100H or the JVM, however.

Re: Marshall JVMs and new DSLs - opinions?

It should run quite happily with 5881/6l6 after a quick rebias.

I have a friend who owned a JCM410 and it was rather nice. When he was selling it I was tempted to take it off his hands.

I friend of mine has a JVM210, he did some mods on it tho, put a choke in it an chaged the OD channel (thats OD2 in the 410s) he took it to OD1 specs, sounds really really killer BTW, before the choke it was very compressed aparently

How do these new DSLs take pedals, how are the cleans? I like my cleans right between jangle and break up, can this amp to this?

Re: Marshall JVMs and new DSLs - opinions?

I've been playing my JVM410H for about 5 years now. I love it and have never had any problems out of it. I love the way it sounds.

The DSL40 has real nice cleans. Didn't try a pedal with it. You can switch from 40W to 20W also.

Do those amps have an internal bias pot or do you have to rebuild the circuit like on old Marshalls?

My old Legacy head accepted 5881 tubes but I never ran them on it.

Neat. Any sound clips or instructions available for this?

Wow, have they really been out that long now?

Re: Marshall JVMs and new DSLs - opinions?

I played one of the 40 watt DSL combos too. It was a pretty nice sounding amp, I liked it better than the older DSLs.

I love my Blackstar HT-40 amp, but WOW! You say the DSL40C can/could beat the HT-40?
What are the differences between both? I use Classic/Modern cleans (depending the situation), and the high gain mode on the overdrive channel. I use a Bad Ass Distortion for some dirt (use it more like a slight overdrive instead of distortion).

Please say. I would like to know more about it.
