Marshall MG100HFX Half Stack

gets a Guitar Player magazine "Editor's 'Pick'." Your Thoughts??? It said something to the effect of "4 channels of 'as bad as tube' sound". I don't remember exactly, I was reading it at Wal-Mart. It was a "shootout" of 13 half-stacks. Has anyone tried this amp?? Is Guitar Player magazine credible? It was from the MG4 line of amps which is different from the 'regular' MG line.

I have a Marshall MG30DFX solid state practice amp. It's good for practice at bedroom volume. But I'd never buy a half stack w/ a solid state head man! Not unless I plan on playing clean jazz 100% of the time. It would be a waste IMO. I doubt that the cabs that are available for the amp in question would work for a tube head if you bought one at a later date.

I have a battery-powered one watt "mini-stack". Bad ASS dude. It has a clip I can put on my belt to play anywhere in the house I want and EVERYTHING.:naughty:

Srsly, I saw a band in southern Utah named Scarcity, and the guitarist used an MG head. His tones was actually pretty decent, but a solo boost would have helped him 10 fold. He disappeared during his solos.

Yes. You need some kind of a boost to play seriously with these amps.

"editors pick?"

On what grounds?

Its ok..but I'd really only get one if you can get it for really cheap..I have the MG HDFX...I can't imagine the MG4 one is outrageously better.

Anyway, bottom line is its something you have to work with to get good sounds from. I usually use pedals

Re: Marshall MG100HFX Half Stack

My first amp was a 50 watt MG series. Whilst i could dial in usable tones i could never really dial anything particularly great. It was good to get me started, but in my search for my sound it wasn't right for me and i replaced it a long time ago.
