I have the head but use it with my own homemade 4x10 cabinet.

It's ok for a solid state head.

Its got a pretty good clean channel and there is 3 distortions...the heavy sounds are ok once you dial in a good sound but right now I just use my SD-1 for most overdriven rythms on the clean channel and it sounds great. I think the effects are as good as they need to be. Delay and reverb are really good, the chorus is ok but the flanger is only so/so.

The lighter overdrive (Channel OD-1) sounds pretty good once I boost it with my SD-1

An EQ pedal also could be a good idea with this one...I think the "mids" control is only slightly lower toned than the "treble" knob

But I don't use on eq so I guess just use with an OD pedal and this amp can pull a lot of stuff off.

I saw Marshall did a video on this and they said never to use it with a different cabinet besides the MG412 but I dont know if thats really worth looking in to or not...but either way even if its cheaply made, its probably voiced to match the head..again, I dont have it and its not been a big issue since i have emminence (not sure of which model) and they seem to sound pretty huge.



Its not the worlds greatest amplifier, but I am always able to pull awesome stuff out of it, and everything is built in...effects,emulated speaker DI, 4 "Channels" (Actually 2 with 2 modes perchannel), and for a cheap solid state rig its good to have a lot of stuff packed into one place though some people I think would preffer just a dry head.



EDIT : NOt really an issue but I think it does LOOK nice on my cabinet...a lot better than my sloppy rackmount I had laying on it for a while...

There better solid state amps in the market. Many of them are less expensive.

You might even get a good deal for a tube amp at 600$.

I agree, I'd invest that $600 in a nice tube combo or something else. A 100 watt MG...? Hmmm... I dunno... there's got to be alot more better options out there... Look into a peavy tube combo or even a Fender HRD... For SS I'd try out Vox or maybe even Line 6 and see if they have the flavor you're looking for...

...or wait a while and save up more money to get a better amp. A good amp is the smartest investment you can make. don't skimp...

i used to want one cause static x played em fortheir first album. but I got a jcm800 for $650 awhile back. you could land a 5150 combo or halfstack for about that much and would be way happier.

yes, to add to what i said earlier. I would not pay that price for this amp.

I got mine for $175 + 25 shipping off of ebay. which I think is pretty good price for this amp.


It came in mint condition...

I think a lot of people buy these at a store since it is marshall and looks powerful but then take it home and dont really care for it so it goes to ebay nearly mint quite often, and you can get them for almost half the cost of a new one... And there are so many other better options for the $600 price range that the price is hard to justify.

You can get a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe 40 Watt tube combo (which is louder than 100W SS) For approx. the same price.

Also, I was on e-bay yesterday and there were a couple Fender Bassman heads between 50 and 100 watts for around $400-$500. Check those out. They have a couple days less and with a good distortion pedal will give you amazing tone.

You could get a brand new Peavey Windsor head for that...a used Peavey Butcher head for 1/2 that...you could get a Fender Bassman and be a total bad-ass like me...you could get a Randall and have GOOD solidstate tone...there's only a few Marshalls that are THE MARSHALL everybody's looking for...the rest are just to make Marshall the Corporation more money.
