Marshall Silver Edition Info.

I was looking for some more opinions and information on the Silver Edition DSL 100. I am getting a new amp for my birthday and have always wanted a limited edition Marshall. I have played a few DSL half stacks and really liked them.

I was wondering if anyone could post some links to more info on the Silver Edition. I would like to know how many were made. Also, do you feel this amp will increase in value being limited, even though it's a standard production amp, just cosmetically different?

As for modifications, will it hurt the value of the amp to change a few parts for a better sound as long as all the original parts are kept and can be replaced?

I have been told alot about this amp from different people. Some say that by changing the transformer and resistors I can get anything from a Plexi tone to hot rodded 800 sounds. Is this true?

I have not had a chance to play a DSL with pedals or at loud volumes, so what is your opinions on how well it sounds with pedals and does it sound good cranked.

I was also tinkering with the idea of having it rebiased to 6550 tubes. I have never used an amp with these tubes. I am familiar with EL34's and 6L6's. Could I also get some advice on what kind of tone to expect from them..

Thanks

So you want a Silver Jubilee. They are awesome amps with a distinctful enough flavour to them.

Here ya go. Scroll down to The 25th Anniversaries on the first link.

They're already increasing in price because many more people have opened their eyes and ears to them. I don't know anything about the numbers made but they are a "special series" and as time moves on the good ones are harder to find and the played hard combos and heads are popping up a little more often on eBay.

I'm no soothsayer and I can't imagine them rising to particularly collectable costs but if you mod one and keep all of the original parts that will help in the end if you hadn't. That last link is a very cool inclusion regarding these amps and their layouts.

If you really like what they have to offer you can always look into the other limited release of their "reissue" >> The Marshall Slash JCM 2555sl

I saw one of Scott Ian's Silver Jubilee Head's rehoused in a Black Levant box after the original Silver one was damaged in a studio fire. Looked tasty and wickedly supreme for a Marshall Head.

But what did it sound like?

INCREDIBLE.

They're the only Marshall model that I really dig into that are laid out on a PCB board.

Hope this helps ya some.

Re: Marshall Silver Edition Info.

Key of G, wrong amp bro.

Ah Ha. Ummm, I see. Sure is. I suppose I was just going off of the "Silver" Moniker. 'Marshall Silver Edition Info.' Maybe I'll hold off on a third cup of coffee this morning. >Zoom>>

Now Marshall has made 2 runs of a "Silver" LE amp. I'd imagine that they had a lot of back stock for head cabs still, or the marketing dept needs some new ideas. Sorry, can't help ya out on that newbie. As far a collectablity or thinking that it'll rise in value, probably not, that's really a crap shoot there. I can help by saying get an amp that you like the sound, tone, and playability of more so than taking a gamble if it will increase in value at a later point.

I suppose DSL shoulda clued me in, but I just skimmed the barbarian's question and went off the title.

With something so new Darwin, I'd research it out with Google and the such. You'll only recieve a limited response on it in one area like a forum. And then the end result is really what you want or like about an amp. Get in some where to play it.

Thanks. You said that they had made 2 LE silver runs. Are both the DSL or is one run different?

I've tried surfing Google and a few other search engines, but can't find anything about them other than sites with ones for sale. I have checked Marshalls site but have found nothing.

Yes, the first was Silver Limited Edition Marshall Amps were produced in 1987 for their 25th Anniversary, "the Silver Jubilee Series." Prior to the DSL amps, so yeah, completely different runs.

There is info regarding this series in the first 4 links I'd posted, and then the other links are of a 'reissue' of those very models from '87, listed as the 'Slash Series' amps. Cosmetically they're different, as well as the name obviously. He was one of the main (or well known) users of the first run amps, and later on ('95) Jim Marshall dedicated their first artist series amp to him and reintroduced the same model basically repackaged and labeled after him.

The the Silver Jubilee Series amps look like this.

Re: Marshall Silver Edition Info.

I have seen alot about the Jubilee's but can't really afford one. I was hoping someone could post some info about the DSL Silver Edition, like how limited they are. Also do you know if this is something Marshall did as an actual LE or is it something like a MF or GC exclusive?

Re: Marshall Silver Edition Info.

From what I know about these amps, it's JUST COSMETIC.

They are playing off the mystique of the 2500 series from 1987. The color signifies nothing, unlike with 1987, it had a symbolic meaning.

These amps go for a little more to a lot more than normal used DSLs. Some have rumored to me that it's upgraded, but most have told me it's just a colored headshell, faceplate, and chassis. The amp is a regular DSL.

DO NOT QUOTE ME ON THIS, just trying to share some feedback.

Re: Marshall Silver Edition Info.

I finally found a site that said there were 200 heads and angled cabs produced and 50 straight cabs.

I have found a halfstack package at a music store for $2,100 out the door new with warranty.

Does this sound like a good price? What was the original cost when they came out a couple of years ago?

Thanks

I don't know bro. $2,100 seems like alot for a DSL half stack. Unless you loved the tone, or wanted to take the gamble as an investment piece, I'd look at the JVM series...

I really like the tone of the DSL's. I am not a big fan of the JVM for some reason though. MF had the regular DSL halfstack for $1,950 so I ended up jumping on this one. I hope it goes up in value since it was a LE, but if it doesn't it's still so much cooler looking than the black models, definately worth the extra $150 IMHO.

Re: Marshall Silver Edition Info.

You know what would go really well with that - A killer Gibson Silverburst!
