Marshall TSL100 Footswitch issue

i bought a used Marshall TSL 100 years ago and have used it very little... the footswitch i never used until tonight... i can't get the footswitch to turn on the clean channel... the light on the footswitch comes on but the amp stays on Crunch.... from what i've found poking around the net is the footswitch appears to have been an issue with this model... i have a small gig to use it at tomorrow and need a clean channel for all of 1 minute! LOL! guess i'll try to dial in the crunch to sound clean

is there some sort of seceret setting for the amps buttons to use the footswitch in or do i just have a crap footswitch on a less then perfect Marshall model?

Re: Marshall TSL100 Footswitch issue

I had a TSL100. The plastic grommet where the cable passes through the sheet metal of the footswitch chassis was too tight. Over time, it wore on the individual conductors inside the wire so that two of them no longer conducted. I desoldered the whole thing from the circuit board, cut off the bad part, resoldered, then trimmed down the plastic grommet enough so that it wouldn't crush the cable but would still hold it in place. I think I used a round file for that.

You might have that same issue, maybe not.

Re: Marshall TSL100 Footswitch issue

thanks for replying... the switch/wires must be a lemon for sure... while fooling around with it i noticed when i have the reverb on and switch between Crunch and Lead the reverb lets out a loud burst for a second yet it does not do that when i use the amps channel select... like the reverb is set to full for a second... ghosts in the works! i've only ever used this head a few times... and the few times was just using the crunch channel... i don't really have much luck with Marshalls... i've played various Peavey's for almost 20 years and those amps still work fine like when i got them

Re: Marshall TSL100 Footswitch issue

Sometimes for the FS to work you have to be already on a precise channel (ex: my rocker30 needs to be on the dirty channel for the switch to work). That may not be the issue here but it's worth trying yours on both channels to see if it works...

Re: Marshall TSL100 Footswitch issue

thanks Surgeon... i looked the manual up and it stated that both channel switches needed to be pushed in for the footswitch to work right

Re: Marshall TSL100 Footswitch issue

saddly i have quite the collection of misfits these days... stuff that kind of works or was damaged and repaired but never the same... oneday i'll need to get a new rig... something really reliable... bulletproff would be best...

Re: Marshall TSL100 Footswitch issue

like you said those footswitches are known to break and they cost over $100 to replace!

Best solution, is to buy a switch doctor footswitch for the tsl100. Luckily, when I bought my tsl60 head it came with the switch doctor.

Re: Marshall TSL100 Footswitch issue

Also, if it's a classic latching swith and doesn't work with some 5-7 din-pin (midi-style) connector, switches are easy to build...

Re: Marshall TSL100 Footswitch issue

I had something similar happen with my TSL60. Somehow the cable was plugged into the amp upside down.
