Marshall valvestate ...

... does anybody remember these things?

I actually got one, the 80W. They were replaced in the late 90's by the AVT series.
The thing is, I never use half of the power this beast could unleash and will soon replace it as main amp by smaller one (15W) fully valve driven. As money is an issue, I was wondering if I will sell it or not.

I got it second hand in 1995, probably built in the early 90's. 2 years ago, I changed some pots that were causing more and more humming, to the point I couldn't play it anymore. I'll post some pics later on.

If I were to sell it, how much do you think I could get out of it?

Re: Marshall valvestate ...

I found only one on Ebay france. But I think the guy is way to optimistic with a starting price of 250€/£170.

What's more: how can he say it is as new when he got it for 6 month. The thing is at least 8 years old.

$400 !!! which is approximately £230, when you can find the AVT100 new for £290 on the web. That's pretty good. Is there some kind of collectorism behind this or is it because they are known to be built to last?

Re: Marshall valvestate ...

Ive got one! Paid £50 (STEAL) off of a mate. Apologies for the giant picture, but i feel you need to see it big

Re: Marshall valvestate ...

I had a Marshall 8080 I sold last year for around $325. Not a horrible amp at all. The Clean channel was a Lil' Sterile/Brittle sounding and the OD2 channel had more gain than I knew what to do with.:laugh2: But in between it had some very usable rock tones( It better if it want's to call itself a Marshall:laugh2: )

Re: Marshall valvestate ...

Thanks for the pic Kev, it reminded me that before the AVT series they made a new version of the valvestate 80W. Mine is the previous generation.

Re: Marshall valvestate ...

I think its quite a nice amp really! Does everything i want at the moment with the added help of a gt6. But looking for something up market soon, perhaps a mesa.

Re: Marshall valvestate ...

i sold my valvestate 4040 for guess how much ??
100 bucks !!

I saw the 4020 selling at about 500 bucks at one local store .. duh

Re: Marshall valvestate ...

I had 1 of the 1st Valvestate series amp, the 40w 1x12 8040 combo :)

It was my 1st amp and at the time I was playing a Rikter Les Paul copy. So as soon as I got the Marshall amp I was on my way to Rock :D

From what I remember it was quite a nice sounding amp. The clean channel was a little bland, but it was useable enough and the OD sounds out of it were pretty good :)

I sold mine for about £180 (if I remember correctly) to buy a 1970s Solidstate Vox AC30. Now that was a HORRIBLE amp!

Re: Marshall valvestate ...

I found a picture on the web of the beast I am talking about... Couldn't find the one I took for some reason... ?!?

Re: Marshall valvestate ...

I got an AVT and it kicks ass, Best Marshall thats not all tube (pisses on the MG series). Actually the AVT's just got moved form being made in england to china (same part I beleive but now only all tube marshalls are being made in england). What does this mean for you? ALOT lower prices, as for the quality I beleive it will stay pretty kickass as I beleive most parts are from england still.

Looks a tad older than mine.

Indeed... so what do you think about my original question. I thought about it again and I think it's not worth it. I'll keep it in case a friend come to play or in case I need to blow up the whole place.
