a lil while ago i was talking to a friend about me buying a Marshall and he says, "Marshalls are way overrated. you need a 300 watt solid state Crate. they have them down at the store for $350. It's a REAL amp nowadays." holy fnck i went ballistic on him lol. i didn't know Crate was a better amp than Marshall i've gotta go get one now :laugh2:

Oh, haven't you heard? When you buy one, you get a hypnotic chip implanted in the base of your skull that reverses the Crate's sound with a JCM800 ... so, when you listen to the Marshall, you think you're hearing the Crate, and vice versa.

To each his own. I know I don't like the JCM2000 series. I like the GLX series. It's all about preference and taste. Next time ask him to be more specific - because it is truly unfair to judge by brand name itself. Tell him to name the model and what was turned him off about it. I hate Marshall S/S, love Crate S/S.

Hmm...I, somewhat, tend to think the same thing on some all tube Marshalls, particularly, like I mentioned before, the JCM2000 series. However, some people truly know how to use them and the result is flawless tone.

The blue voodoos are pretty good. They've got a terrific clean, and more gain than you could ever want.

But to say a crate is a "real" amp and that Marshalls are overrated and overused...that guy's just an idiot. Marshalls have so much history behind them, how could you say they all suck?

A plexi sounds mighty different from a tsl. A JMP800 i think sounds quite a bit different from a jcm800. Lots of stuff to choose from there.

Blue Voodoos are nice amps. But for the record, I don't believe his friend said that they suck. Like you said, he stated that he believed that Marhall's are overrated and overused, and for giving his perfectly liable opinion I don't think that he should be called an idiot.

Iv got a Crate GT1200 120wtt, 3 ch 1/2 stack, and for my tone its perfect. I just like how easy it is to get my gain at low/bedroom levels at 2 in the AM. Level on 1 1/2 - 2 and Gain on 8, scream.

I've got a Blue Voodoo and I love it. Marshall amps are GREAT as well. It's a win win situation IMO.

You've GOT to be kidding. Comparing Crate with Marshall is like comparing Yugo with Cadillac. I'm not a huge Marshall fan, but I put Crate even further down my list of desireable amps than Peavey. I will grant you that Crate's Blue Voodoo amps are pretty good, as are the ones that they made for Sammy Hagar, but when you look at their stock in comparison to Marshall, there's not really any contest. Are you REALLY sure that you think that the tone of Blackmore, Wilde, Malmsteen, and a hundred other names would be better through a Crate amp? I don't think so.
