Marty Friedman appreciation thread

He is my #1 shredmaster. Chris Broderick is a virtuoso but he couldn't replicate Marty's nuances.

No delay, no echo...just Marty's sick AF chops through a JB..

If you listen closely with high quality speakers/amp or headphones, the overtones from the pickup just beg for more. SD RULES.

One of the greatest metal solos ever. That said, listening to it stripped of the context of the other instruments, even as repetitive as the backing riff is, it just doesn't hit the same for me as an isolated track.

Possibly the greatest metal solo ever, with Lucretia a very close second, just missing out 🙂
What shouldn't go unnoticed are Mustaine's groovy riffs.

Mustaine's solos were Newstead'd/Burton'd where they were underproduced. I would look forward to a remaster by Rick Rubin or someone of that calibre to reproduce/remaster albums that were greatly misrepresented/underproduced. There are so many classic albums that deserve to be produced properly.

Marty will always be my favourite Megadeth guitarist, which is saying something because that band has always had top-quality lead guitarists the whole way, from Chris Poland and Jeff Young in the pre-Marty era through to Kiko Loureiro and Teemu (cannot remember how to spell his last name lol) today. Hell, even one-off guys like Al Pitrelli and Glen Drover are worth listening to in their own right.

There is just something about Marty, though. Those blazing legato runs that almost verge on neo-classical fit Mustaine's rhythm like a glove. And that era of the band clearly inspired Mustaine to write his best work, songwriting credits be damned.
