McCarty vs Seths

What do y'all think? I'm considering putting one or the other into a PRS custom 22 stop tail.
Thanks

BTW- I'm just looking for a classic LP type tone (I know, get a LP).

Go with the Seths. You won't be sorry. (Then, sell the PRS and get a nice LP Standard or Classic. :laugh2:

Re: McCarty vs Seths

Yeah, I need a LP, but I've become quite attached to the PRS. I figured that both Seths and McCartys are kinda the same idea- both are trying to nail the old PAF tone.
Thanks jeffrec

Re: McCarty vs Seths

I just picked up a McCarty a couple weeks back. Sweet guitar. Sweet sounds. Nice PUPS, especially the neck.

But it doesn't sound like a Les Paul. Not close at all..mids are different. It sounds like a much sweeter PRS C22 with better clarity. Perhaps with some Seths or 59's it would be more Les Paul like, but IME, as it is, a McCarty has a more refined, modern sound of it's own. Not terribly Gibson or Vintage-like.

Re: McCarty vs Seths

Has anyone compared these two pups?
Jeffb- that guitar sounds like a sweet instrument. If I was to get another PRS, that would be it for sure. Custom or Standard?

Re: McCarty vs Seths

i would get antiquitys. if you want the classic lp sound in a guitar that might not have the same tone i think the antiquitys will get you as close as youre gonna get.
sweet warm tone with more rich sonic complexity than almost anything else ive played

Re: McCarty vs Seths

I would go with the seth lovers. I'm a big fan of PRS but the McCarty pickups are very dark sounding, too much so to me. I have a seth lover in a melody maker and really like it.

Re: McCarty vs Seths

Since Seths are 2 lead, maybe you should go with something thats 4 lead. I really like the C-5/59 in McCarties, since it's still A5 like the stocks, but has more punch.

I'd probably go with a 59/Jazz, if I had to do it over again. I think that set would be nearly perfect for getting the best tone out of a McCarty.
