Measuring resistance

Do I have to take the pup out to measure resistance with multimeter? I want to check my JB - it seems to have low out put to my ears. I'm just a lazy bastard and don't feel like unsoldering the pup unless I have to....

Re: Measuring resistance

you can measure by plugging in your guitar cord, place the ground lead of your meter to the shaft, the hot lead to the tip

your measurement will be slightly lower, but certainly close enough to determine if your pickup's output is low

Re: Measuring resistance

Also, make sure you have only that pickup selected, and the volume control on "10". Doesn't matter where the tone control is.

Excellent idea! Thank you.

Re: Measuring resistance

mY JB is measuring at 16.30. I think that's a normal range from what I have read. The issue is high E string always sounds dull, so I just raised the pole piece a few turns higher to get an even string balance.

Re: Measuring resistance

Did that work? It could be something else, like a dead string, or a problem with the nut or saddle.

Re: Measuring resistance

The pickup is F-spaced so the High is off center just a bitat the pole piece. That's probably what's causing it. An extra screw turn or two seemed to do the trick.
