I've got a 1960 Gibson Melody Maker with one single coil bridge pickup and want to install a JB jr., but the spacing of the mounting screws on the pickguard is wider than on the JB jr, any suggestions?

Welcome to the board !! Being a vintage Guitar I'd save the original
Pickgaurd and PuP. Try www.pickguards.com and have them
make you a custom guard or get a Blank and cut it out yourself.

KMC is right. Just be careful since it is vintage. Hope it works out.

If you have to get a custom pickguard and the pickup, it might be worth a call to the SD Custom Shop to get what you want specifically for a MM. Not sure of the cost, but it would be cool and still allow you to revert to the original. YMMV

Hi have a similiar question involving a Melody Maker. I have a stripped (no hardware, no electronics) late 60's Melody Maker SG body I'm making a guitar out of. I have my JB junior for the bridge and a duckbucker for the neck. I got a reproduction pickguard and like David's my mounting screws don't line up. I'm not concerned with keeping the guitar totally stock since one of the lower bouts of the guitar has a huge repaired crack from being dropped by someone. I'm planning on mounting the pickups directly into the wood. Does anyone have any advice on how I should do it? Do I install some kind of threaded inserts?
