Meow Pedal Day: Black Cat Amps Djenttonic

So after not finding what I was looking for in the Revv G4 and still wanting something new, I just searched for "guitar pedals cat" and this thing turned up in the results.

I kinda like the few sound samples I could find fit the bill of "modern, tight, highgain and intended to be used in front of the clean channel" and had a cat on it so I thought what the heck, I'll take a chance. I ordered the LE version though "b/c money". Kinda regret it and don't at the same time as the full fledged version has a crazy good feature: usb-c chargeable lithium battery which is regulated in a way that it either gives full voltage or none, so no dying battery sag. But since it will live on a board with a power source I wouldn't have had much use for it so I opted to save some cash.

Just got home, so I'll go grap a bite and will be back with my honeymoon impressions.

Until then here is my newest cat straight from Ukraine:

OK, my ears are shot and ringing, I guess that is a good sign. :)

Tomorrow I will try to cook up some sound samples of this thing, but thus far it is a slam dunk for me. One can definitely hear that they had the modern low tunings in mind: with the EQ ranges but it works flawlessly with standard E stuff too.
Based on my first impressions it delivers what I was looking for: a VERY aggressive sounding, articulate, tight, "dry" and modern distortion. What I didn't expect though is the efect of the "Warmth" switch (I'd have called it vintage/modern switch, but whatever). It tames the ferocious cat into a loose, very cool sounding rock kitten. Thus far my only negative is that the fcuking LED melts my eyes out. Way tooo bright, even in a well lit room.

Stay tuned. I'll try to record and share samples even if none of yous is interested ib ny slopfest. :)

So here's a little snippet. My recording skills didn't do the thing justice though. Not to mention my playing and te fact that for whatever reason I feel like sh!t, depressed as ever and playing loud didn't feel good. But I said I would post something and I ain't gonna make an a$$ out of my mouth. SM57 into the cloth of an old H&K 1x12 combo, pickup is Black Winter. Might not be for everyone, but I got what I wanted: a tight, percussive, high gain distortion.

(BTW how does one embed the Souncloud player in a post? - Problem solved, thx Bruce!)

Sounds awesome I am digging it. to embed Soundcloud you can your the tags below. I replaced the "O" with "0" so the tag could be seen. For some reason on my browser the Soundcloud button comes up blank. But all it does is generate that tag

Yep, this post sent right to the Black Cat website. What a very cool pedal, nice old school thrash tones. I can't put my finger on exactly what guitarist it is nodding towards but it will come to me.

I was surprised too! Their built in Li ion battery is a slam dunk, can't believe noene else is doing it...

The first big name that comes to mind sound wise is Slayer. War Enseble sounded pretty rad with it, albeit bit sloppy. The latter is prolly not the pedal's fault...:D

And I've made the mistake of not trying it out with the obvious: a JB! Kinda regret not recording the sample with that. Been noodling with it the past hour Maaaan, this thing was meant for the JB! I gotta say that this is the most authentic 80s thrash I ever heard from my amp. Will try and do something with the JB loaded Soloist next week, but it's already 11 pm here, neighbors wouldn't approve...
