Mesa Boogie DC Series

I've been looking for a low(er)-powered (30-watts or less) multi-channel tube combo amp for a while now. There's definitely not much to choose from if you want 2 independent channels. I was really fond of the Rivera Clubster 25 but I could never find one used and I didn't want to spend $900 for a secondary/practice amp. So I finally chose the Mesa Boogie DC2... but this is the first time I bought an amp without playing it yet!!! So I'm definitely a little nervous. It's supposed to arrive this weekend.

Anybody have opinions on Mesa's DC series amps... especially the DC2? I really don't trust Harmony Central reviews. I've got the one with the Contour mode and the headphone out options.

Thanks!

I used to play DC-5 for rehearsals. It sounds good. The clean sound is jazzy sounding and the distortion sounds hotrodded Marshall with Mesa flavor, but without the Marshall uppermid frequency.

Nice! Yeah everything I hear is good. The only negatives comes from people who were looking for a Rectifier tone. Well that's what my Rectifier is for so no worries there. I'm just very impressed at the versatility... especially if the dirty channel is more "Mark-ish" than "Rectifier-ish".

Re: Mesa Boogie DC Series

they are very nice and versatile amps....especially the ones that come with the graphic eq

I had a DC-3 for several years. It is a fantastic amp. The clean is very Fender-y, and the high gain definitely has a Marshall + Mark flavor to it. Loud little bastard too! I'm sure you will be VERY happy with your DC-2.

Hey Jay,

I still have my DC5 head. If you're interested, I can bring it to your place sometime this week or next and you can try it out. It probably sounds just as good through your lefty LP as it does my righty LP...maybe better, since you've got a burst. ;)

Seriously, let me know if you want to hear it. I can swing by.

P.S. The DC5 is in awesome condition.

Nice... the tonal benefits of a sunburst are so understated!!! The DC-2 should be arriving this weekend so its probably not necessary, I was more curious than anything. I probably should have thought about that BEFORE I bought the dam thing! My band now practices out in Dracut (45 minutes away) and I don't think I want to lug the Recto back and forth twice a week which is why I was looking at a 1x12 combo.

I've yet to take the Paul back to Chris although I did see him at the Auburn Guitar Show and mentioned it to him. He said you were happy so I just need to get off my a$$ and do it.

Thanks again for the offer

I had the DC10 and regret getting rid of it, I really like that series of amps.
I think you'll enjoy it... or I hope so anyway.

Do you have any DC now? I seem to recall you saying in another thread you've got a DC5.
