My search for the elusive tone led me into the above amplifier. I am a certified "Twidget" so the Mesa Road King was engineered for players like me. The tone issue is whether or not I can be satisfied with the Blues or Jazz sounds my ear picks out via the four amplifiers available? Honestly, tone just gets more elusive the more time I spend trying to find it. The 2 x 12 Road King system creates a vibrancy so completely separate from any other amplifiers I've used it is no wonder the engineer's refer to it as an "instrument" instead of an amplifier. My Fender solid state can create a lot of hard rock 'sting' where the Mesa takes that sting and builds on it coupled to the 6L6's and the EL 34's. I like both amp's but the Mesa is king when it comes to manipulating sound that can raise the hair on your arms and neck. Simply put... the Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Road King 2 x 12 takes the player and the gig as far as the artist wants to go without any letup or let down. Cost is high and so is the excellent crowd response. I've run my Les Paul Studio through the Road King in session as well as my Gibson J-45 with an LR Baggs pickup. I also use an Ibanez Artcore reworked by Mike Lull and team. Frankly, our net sound is well received whether we are playing Country or Rock or extemporaneous Jazz, which I like. And the Mesa proves that a sound investment is the best sound after all.
