Anyone know who makes these for them. Says on the box designed by Mesa and built for them buy an Aerospace firm. Put some in my classic 30 and really like them.

Re: Mesa Boogie EL84s

No, they aren't JJ, Russian I suspect. I don't care for them, but if it works for you......
I suppose it's best to use the tubes that the amp was designed around.
Every Mesa tube I've tried sounded either lifeless or sterile or harsh. BUt I don't have a MESA amp, (Marshall) Ended up giving them all away. I had a MESA 12ax7spa and it was identical to a sovtek 12ax7wa tube I had. (don't care for them either)
YOu can use JJ's if you go with a 5-6 range though.
Quote from another forum: "they're actually a variety of sovtek, svetlana, SED, EH, and chinese... been that way for a while. their offerings change occasionally, but there's usually some mixture of tubes from all or most of those sources available across their range of tubes. "
I can't say how accurate this is, but I do know that MESA does not make tubes themselves.

"designed by Mesa" er, :lmao:

Don't know who designed the EL-84, but it wasn't Mesa.

I ended up liking Ei EL-84s the best out of four or five pairs I tried in my Blues Jr. - disliked the Mesas the most actually.

However, it's your amp and your ears, so be happy you found tubes that you like.

Re: Mesa Boogie EL84s

I think the EL84 are Sovteks. A lot of the Mesa branded power tubes are Sovtek. I do know the Russian 2 12AX7s are EHX (I like them), while the Russian 1 12AX7s are Sovtek and are a little harsh even in the Mesas.

I switched my Mesa EL84s to JJ for my Mesa F-30 and I do like the JJs a little more. As far as Mesa 6L6s, I have had JJs and Mesa branded in both my old Dual Rec and my Road King II - I can tell a difference, but both amps seems pretty content with either.
