hi
do you know this high gain models?

for metal
we have the mesa boogie throttle box eq ( i have the model without eq but i ' d prefer with the eq)

empress heavy
mi audio megalith

i look for a very loud metal distortion
Scooped mids
which sound real like an amp

i have the metal muff but it does not sound so real
the ht metal does not so hard you can imagine

the tube king has a very hard gain but not Scooped mids

so i think about the other models but the pedal must sound real with a guitar solo too
with a boost for example or not

Real sounding Pedals well they can come very close.
One pedal I found that sounded incredible is the Krank Distortus Maximus. It's very heavy and very good. It's damn close to the real amp as I have owned both the pedal and a Revolution 1 Krank amp. WOW what a killer pedal.
The Throttle box to me sucks. It's a muddy crappy mess. I was very surprised the Mesa Amps are killer. The pedal has some of the tone but the Muddy mess it makes really is disappointing. I just picked one up and I was very surprised how crappy the pedal is.
The MXR 5150 pedal I messed around with and it was pretty impressive. you might want to test drive it. If you like the sound of the 5150 amps, you'll like the pedal, it's really good.
I use to own a ToneBone by Radial which was a very versatile pedal years ago, I don't know if you can get one new but I'm sure you can find one used. It had a lot of real like amp tones to it. Impressive pedal and really worth the new asking price. I just looked at Sweetwater and they have them so if someone local has one , go play it through a Fender amp so you can get a honest demo. Buying online sucks IMO, how are you supposed to figure out if you really like something? I much prefer local purchase and demoing first. But thats me.
Good luck with your search, this should get you started or finish your quest.

I forgot to add the Governor, it's a killer sounding Marshall Pedal that actually sounds like a Marshall amp. I think I'm gonna pick one of those up as I was super impressed with it.
Just remember a Pedal can not replace a real tube amps gain channel but man the quality of pedals today and for the last decade have been remarkable. Stay away from Modeling pedals or at least thats how I feel, Boss does a pretty good just with the GT series but it's not as good as the real thing dude or even a good quality pedal.
2 cents man.

i had the throttle box
but the throttle box eq will be better because of the eq

Re: mesa boogie throttle box eq vs Empress heavy vs megalith vs

i don't know if the mx evh sounds real like an amp
or just a metal muff

Re: mesa boogie throttle box eq vs Empress heavy vs megalith vs

Very familiar with the Heavy. Superb pedal, not inexpensive. I ended up selling mine to fund a new synth. Plus I have the Uberschall. However that pedal doesn't have a gate and is not good for low volumes. It really pushes your amp.

Re: mesa boogie throttle box eq vs Empress heavy vs megalith vs

the ubberschal has a lot of bad comments

the mesa eq is unique

but if i wanted to try one > the megalith and empress
they told me it sounds like an amp

i don't know it yet

when you think a Marshall jackhammer sounds like an amp

and not the weehbo jvm drive lol

Re: mesa boogie throttle box eq vs Empress heavy vs megalith vs

the blackstar ht metal is strange :!

a lot of dynamic
a tube
but my marshall pedal has no tube and sounds great and natural

Re: mesa boogie throttle box eq vs Empress heavy vs megalith vs

I still like the Palladium better for this...it really adds an actual stage of heavy gain to any amp.
