Mesa Boogie Trouble

So I've been looking at some amps, and the second I plugged into the mesa boogie express series (the 5:25 to be exact) i was sold. I've never played through one, and holy crap now i know why they get their reputation.

Im about to buy it, and noticed that the reverb dial does absolutely nothing. Plug into the same model right next to it, screw with the dial and still no reverb to my ears.

Wtf happened? I got literally everyone on staff at GC to try and help, but no matter what we did the reverb dial (on both) remained useless. So needless to say, I didnt feel like dropping $1300 on something that didn't function properly.

Anyone know whats going on? It was weird that the same exact one next to it had the same "problem", which is why i feel like its probably some little secret that nobody in the store could figure out. HELPP! I WANT THAT AMP SOO BAD

Re: Mesa Boogie Trouble

Is the reverb perhaps turned off via the foot switch?

That would be my guess. Both of my Mesa's have to be set on the back if I'm not using the foot switch. I thought the verb on the Tremoverb was out until I figured this out. It's still a pretty subtle reverb, but I attribute that to having a weak tube driving it, mainly because the tremelo on it is the same way.

Re: Mesa Boogie Trouble

Years ago I had a Laney 2x12 combo amp that had a push pull/on off switch on the reverb. I had no idea it was even there and one day it got pulled and turned the reverb off and all I knew was my reverb was broke. Since I had no idea that option was even on my amp I took it to a tech after a couple days. $50 later I learned it had a push/pull on/off switch.

Hmmmm RTFM much lol?

Re: Mesa Boogie Trouble

I was a dopey 17 year old. I'm not even sure it came with a manual. I panicked too because IIRC the amp took a header on the way to my buddy's house for a jam and I was convinced I broke it.

As an aside, that reverb on/off thing is why I been looking for a Rectoverb for a while now. I want a clean channel with Reverb and a dirty channel without but without having to do a tap dance to make it so.

Re: Mesa Boogie Trouble

That was my guess as well, but I did a whole lot of toying around with the footswitch, to no avail.

I got nothing.

Re: Mesa Boogie Trouble

Is the reverb tank plugged in on both amps? On my DC-5, you can disconnect the reverb tank by unplugging or (or was it two???) RCA type connections near the tube sockets.
