I can get a used ''Mesa Boogie Single Rectifier Solo Head (Series 2)'' (the add's exact words), for $950.00 USD.

Now, keep in mind, that is a GOOD price for this country.
I am not even gonna try and talk the bloke down.

So, here is my question :

What is the diffs between the Series 2 (that he is selling), and the Series 1 ?

I have NO idea. Is there a massive diffs in tone / specs ?
The seller does not even know.

Any info will be great !

Thanks guys.

Re: Mesa Gurus . . . needs some info - fast please.

There's a bias switch on the back of the 2 to go from 6L6 to EL34. I believe the clean channel was redone, and they added the raw voicing to channel 2 on the series 2 as well. I'm sure I'm forgetting something. That's a great price, and most would probably prefer the series 2.

Thank you very much Lampy !

I've never read anything about the clean channel being revoiced and I've researched these a lot before I bought my series 1 and afterwards but if you say so, I can't argue much either (it's pointless anyways).

If you ever need a new footswitch, know that the series 1 and 2 FS aren't interchangeable.

Lampy pretty much covered it all. It's a great amp for sure. The clean was great and the dirt is nice, not as "abrasive" as a dual recto but very nice indeed, a bit darker imho.

If I may: I'm in Canada where mesa gear is usually really expensive. Still, 950$ for one seems quite high to me. Where are you?

I sold my Series 1 for 625$ a few months ago. Sure, it was gone in 24hrs and wasn't anywhere close to mint but still, unless we're talking about a spotless combo, 950$ appears high... Still, you know your market (since I dunno where you are) and if you're saying it's a good price, go for it!

IIRC my TripleRec was over $1K, but then it's a TR, it was from a forum member (here or elsewhere? can't recall), and they're still popular.

Thanks for the insight.

I am stuck in South Africa, where you see a used Mesa (of any kind) maybe once a year . . . IF you are very , very lucky.

Been trying to locate/find a used Electra Dyne for over 5 years now . . . WITH ZERO luck :(

Over here . . . IF you want something that rare (ie. any Mesa amp), you pay what they ask.

Remember, we have NO Mesa Boogie agents/importers.

Yes I concur. Up here in Canuckland I've bought a Series 2 for $635 and sold it for $700. They appear almost monthly in the local classifieds priced in the same range.

Supply and demand rules the market indeed.
Aussies pay big prices for mesa also,,,,,,and they probably are not in as short supply there, but with greater demand it kind of equals out.

Yeah, and still, it's a bit more expensive than in the states of course. However, I can't imagine being in south africa... they must pay through the nose for US-made stuff...
