Mesa Lone Star Series...

So, I'm looking for a combo amp that can clean up well, and play with some overdrive but nothing too heavy sounding, but I checked out the LoneStar 212 while I was looking at stuff. Now, I'm pretty positive I want a Hot Rod Deville 212, but I figured I'd price check the Mesa, and, DAMN!, it was like, 1600 dollars! WTF! Is it really that good of an amp, that it costs as much as like, a Dual Rectifier?

Re: Mesa Lone Star Series...

I've played the Lonestar and I was equally unimpressed. The blues and clean tones were decent, but I thought the amp was overly muddy.

Re: Mesa Lone Star Series...

For that money, buy yourself a Hotrod Deville AND a good Marshall halfstack, or better yet, a Bogner Shiva head. The only Mesa that interests me at the moment, is the new Stilletto, since it's more of a Marshally type Mesa. I gotta hear one of those.

Yeh i wanna try a stilletto, they've got seperate chanell power selectors 50,100,150W

I am shopping...... looking at the DR. Z's I guess thus far, I'm glad to see some reviews on the LoneStar coming in....... I had an org Boogie Mark I, but it was much to crunchy for my tastes. I perfer that buttery smooth sound, of even the "Evil Twin" or "JTM 45" I was in hopes that the Lone Star may have had this but from the reviews I have seen thus far I guess not. Anyway let's keep it coming! Thanks

Re: Mesa Lone Star Series...

The Lone Star sounds good with some tweaking. While I haven't heard the Blue Angel, the cleans on the LS sound to my ears the best out of Mesa's lineup. The distortion is gritty and can get that Recto type sound, just not quite as gainy. If you're expecting a JTM 45, forget about it (I know, it's unfortunate).

The Stiletto sounds killer from the few reviews that I've read.

Re: Mesa Lone Star Series...

The Blue Angel has some of the best cleans and slightly dirty's from any amp I have tried, so you might look into one of those.

Re: Mesa Lone Star Series...

I briefly tried the lonestar, and I wasn't blown away. Far from a bad amp, but not as good as the blue angel.

Re: Mesa Lone Star Series...

You're kind of missing the point, Strat master. The lonestar is aimed at a different type of player than the rectifier. The lonestar is aimed at someone who might want to play roots/blues/clean/classic rock, and the recto is pretty much known as a metal machine.

I did a tv show with a recto, solely using the clean channel, and I can tell you it's no clean tone connoisseur's dream.
