is the sound different?

and one more question; how does it sound compared to dual rectifiers?

Re: Mesa Mark IV combo / Head?

No difference in the sound of the combo versus the head, save the speaker.

Mesa's original version of the combo had the 200-watt EVM 12" speaker. A second version was introduced, the Mark IV Widebody Combo, featuring the Mesa Black Shadow/Celestion C90. These supposedly have a looser, more vintage feel. The wider chassis has two of the voicing controls moved from the back of the amp to the front.

I think the Mark IV is a very good recording amp, and though I use mine live, it does take a bit of a learning curve--there are a lot of switches and options. I have a 112 EVM Combo, and I almost always use it with a Mesa 112 EVM Theile extention cab. It's a great amp for someone that has to cover a lot of different styles. Country, jazz, blues and rock--the Mark IV can be whatever you need it to be.

The Rectifiers are a necessary component to the dropped tunings of today's rock bands. The Rectifiers produce massive volume and a heavy thick tone. This is an amp for straight ahead rock tone. No reverb in the Recto heads, but the loops are really good. The Rectos have the option of the spongier feel of a tube rectifier, or the tighter feel of a SS rectifier. Rectos can produce bigger, deep bass than the Mark IVs.

Good luck.

the differance between a mark IV and a rectififer? You know everyones favorite chugga chugga rythem? Marks have trouble getting that in my experiance. The Marks smash the resctifiers in lead tone though, if you want to play lead I wouldn't go with a rect.
