well, i bought my mesa head, now i need ot buy a new cab, i wanted a standard mesa cab, but they are unavailable... so... how do the mesa oversized cabs with v30's sound? i hear they're muddier and dont have a lot of clarity... is this true? any opinions?

I, and B2D, prefer Mesa's with Greenbacks. Just try out as many cab's as possible, and find what works for you. Doesn't have to be Mesa, although matching would be cool.

Re: Mesa Oversized cabinets

Personally, I love my Mesa Recto cab. I can't see getting anything else to get my sound.

hm standard is the oversized and traditional is normal (marshall) sized with the recto cabs i think.
I played the Std Recto and it is the best cab i ever heard. Against the MS 1960A i usually play it's much tighter with "smoother" but still much highs. The mids are perfect... It sounds much fatter with single notes... you can raise the bass and it doesn't get muddy... it's much louder... it is "stronger" - it can always give you back what you play... it's like you put a blanket away from your amp. Btw i like the V30 voicing more that the GT75 and i think it fits my amp better.... but it isn't just an issue of voicing

Are we talking 4x12's or 2x12's...just askin'. :)
a 4X12

so you guys are saying the clarity is still good? in the "standard" (oversized) cab?

Re: Mesa Oversized cabinets

As far as I know, Mesa's had about 4 different 4-12's. Standard tolex, tolex black extra tall, Mesa Armored Sides, and the old ones with the grated front.
The standard height tolex version is probably a good one to get.

Re: Mesa Oversized cabinets

I play an oversided Mesa 4x12 (V30's) and it sounds awesome.

No problems with clarity. If someone finds it muddy it's probably because either their amps muddy, or the bass is up too high. Since it's already a bassy cabinet, you don't need as much bass in the first place.
